Just curious, bought a dozen because it was to cheap. Promising a lot for later. It’s pure and intens, I put this away for at least a decade. — 4 years ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

Tonight I thought I would open this LMHB as the 2019 was released on futures yesterday. It may be a better wine but you are going to have to wait a long time to find out. The 66 is a wine where I have opened more than 6 cases in the last 5 yrs & consider it one of the great vintages for current drinking showing black fruits, cassis, saddle leather, smoke, tar, graphite, licorice, soy, tobacco & violets. This has been fully mature for 10 yrs & perfectly stored btls will continue to drink well for many years. One of the wines that keeps me searching & drinking old Bordeaux! — 5 years ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1983

Just had this in Bordeaux a few weeks ago. Like most wines of this vintage it took a bit of imagination to fully appreciate. It is clearly time to drink this wine, it may be on the downhill side of life. Overall a good experience for what was not noted as a premium vintage, but is a very solid wine. — 6 years ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend

Had two bottles on Thursday, August 5th. The party had a different dishes including lamb chops, ribeye steak and one had soft shell crabs. Solid wine with some remaining fruit (but in 3-5 years the fruit may have passed), and good amounts of tobacco, cedar and leather. The first bottle was a little green bell pepper, as you would expect with some under ripe cab franc. The second bottle was better integrated, but had fewer fans at the table. — 4 years ago

A friend had a “reduction party” as he was needing to thin out his cellar. Definitely a party I’m happy to attend!

Had the 2012 Odette Reserve or 2012 Bryant Family not been on the table, this may have won the night. Whereas the other two were drinking deliciously, this displayed more youthful notes than I expected. The fruit here was really bright...candied black cherries, fresh blueberries and blackberries, baking spices, toasted oak, and savory charcoal. Nicely compact on the palate...bing cherries dusted in dark chocolate shavings, Black Forest cake, sandalwood, and smoked meat. If opening now, decant for a few hours.

Freakshow The Strongest Man on Earth Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Color of dark purple, ruby, and a bit brown note on the rim. Nose of dark fruits, tobacco leaves, spice, and indeed some strawberry. Taste is sweet! Zest, cherry, , spice, marginal tannins come next. Quite milky. Aftertaste is also a bit spicy, tobacco leaves, and just a bit too watery. Too sweet for me but may be a good one in the party. — 6 years ago

Hmmm. Have to agree with prior comments. Wouldn’t touch this for a while. Didn’t do too muchfor me. Nothing wrong just nothing epic. So i guess my 15s 16s -and 17s may be late in the game for me. — 5 years ago

Rocca di Montegrossi

Toscana IGT Sangiovese Rosato 2019

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2019 Rocca di Montegrossi Rosato is gorgeous, both spicy and floral, with zesty bright cherry and a hint of grapefruit. On the palate, silky, soothing textures usher in ripe red fruits offset by vibrant acids, as hints of sweet spice and salty minerals buzz on the senses. The finish is medium in length and remarkably fresh. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2020)

Sonnentropfen Wachenheimer trocken Riesling 2018

Surprisingly energetic and sharp for a Pfalz Riesling with steely, spicy lemons and a whiff of peach in the background. Great juiciness & purity, this has the drinkability if a clear mountain spring. Brilliant for sipping solo, but will hold its ground with light food. A cracker entry level wine & brilliant value! — 5 years ago

Drinking up my stock of these as the previous bottles were past their prime. But my final one goes out with life still in it! Apple, pear, ripe and juicy lemon, maybe even a little pineapple on the long finish. — 7 years ago
