Delicious juice, lychee, grapefruit, lemon / lime, guava, a little sweetness, near flavors of a super dry Riesling. — 4 years ago
Quintessential LLC Napa. 14.5% abv. Dark chocolate. Dark berries. Tabecco. Licorice. High acidity. Medium tannin. Probably great with steak but I had it with rotisserie chicken and Italian sub. — 5 years ago
Juicy and tender like a love letter, the color of sunset. A true delight that isn't too heavy or too sweet. Drank excellently on a porch but could be handled at a picnic table or even, dare I say, a lake on Labor Day. — 6 years ago

Gilded Letter 2018 Zinfandel Lodi, California
Drink in the opulence of the Double Gold medal-winning “Best of Lodi” Gilded Letter Zinfandel. Gilding is a process of applying gold, and in doing so the artist adds more value to an object. The winemaker of Gilded Letter has done the same for this Zinfandel. Full-bodied with firm tannins, it is voluptuous and formidable at the same time. Our experts love the richness of the red fruit and chocolate notes, but the real complexity comes with the subtle hints of cracked black pepper and spice. This Lodi wine shines with food, the structure holding up to the hardiest flavors. It retails for $23

Big fav of the 2nd phase wash state Syrah (100%)... linear yet deceptively poetic… Delicate spice in floral accents are like the Gilded Age of pure BlackBerry liquor. Opened up and became even more expressive the second day. — 4 years ago
Paired very well with streak. Great Zin — 5 years ago

Wine 10. Burnt orange. Caramel nose. Eucalyptus. Leather, tar, mocha. One of my faves and the wine of the night for many. Didnt think it was as old as the color showed. It was my contribution. Bought 4 for my son’s birth year. Was a special night so popped one to check. I’m quite optimistic. — 6 years ago

Wine 3. Clearly had some age on this with a burnt orange color. Caramel, citrus, and olive flavors. A little raisiny. — 6 years ago
A great bottle to start celebrating the official promotion letter... somehow tastes even better than I know it is! Great value for a 2002 Cab. — 6 years ago
Wow. This is a small production offering from John Alban (usually 1-2 barrels at most). Mourvedre-dominated, this wine is spectacular (and very approachable for its age). Intense fruit, great balance, and a finish that goes on for nearly a minute. One of the great things about this wine - other than the wine itself - is the bottle. According to Lorraine Alban, the photo on the front shows a hat and cane that belonged to her grandfather. Better still is the font, a recreation of her grandfather’s handwriting from a letter he wrote to his future wife during The Great War. Just awesome. — 4 years ago

The aroma has a woody complexity with a hint of strong berries. Fantastic wine along side of mushroom risotto. Being brought up from Marlborough, this wine highly shows the true talent and sophistication of the natural beauties of the region. — 6 years ago

A reminder that I owe Lambrusco a love letter. Usually I’m more of a di Sorbara gal, but this Grasparossa di Castelvetro has me hooked: violets, black cherry, cassis, a lot more earth than I was expecting, tart and chalky, like liquified smarties (but in a good way!) and just a hint of Welch’s grape jelly— all backed by a nice rustic tannin structure and topped with a delicate mousse. It’s a shame that Barbolini will no longer be exported to the US, though I can’t blame the Italians for wanting to keep it all for themselves. — 4 years ago
