Showing tremendous poise. Beautifully integrated tannins. Wonderful fruit. A great showing!
@Mike Smith you need to make a multi vintage syrah!!! All the cool kids are doing it, right @Fraser McKinley ?! — 6 years ago
I really enjoyed this! Such wonderful tension between the explosive fruits and acid that kept it all in check! Imported by the smartest Australian importer @Ronnie Sanders (because he’s the guy who recognized @Fraser McKinley‘s genius, as well as Elaina Brooks).

Our first Sami Odi. Stunner of a Syrah. Balanced and nuanced but layers and layers of flavor. @Fraser McKinley you da man. — 7 years ago
2008 Sami-Odi 'Hoffmann Dallwitz' MCMXII Syrah
Sourced from 94 vines, planted between 1888 & 1912.
Harvested 14th March 2008.
Yields of 32 hectolitres per hectare.
388 Bottles filled.
Label: ‘Villie-Morgon’ postcard;
Image sourced Paris 2008. A special treat from my friends @chuck_gudas in conspiracy with @fraser_mckinley, a rare treat of an early Sami-Odi offering. We decanted this wine for several hours, and then re-visited 24 hours later, and the wine continued to evolve and improve. Explosive nose of freshly baked cherry pie. More bright red fruits on the palate with a brambley undertone, and soft silky tannins. Wonderful mouth feel with a long, lingering finish. Thank you Chuck and Fraser! — 8 years ago
One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.
Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!
So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable? @philip Angino @Martin A. As with all of the top Cuvées of Sami Odi there is a lot going on with the wine as a product of ancient vines going back to 1912. Ripe plums, black olive, earth, some game and meaty notes and prune. Bold flavours delivered with a trademark silky texture with supple fluid tannins. Rich chocolatey notes on the palate mingling with the ripe plum. Followers of Sami Odi will know that Fraser often blends 2 or 3 vintages but with “Baby Tui” the 2012 vintage was so good that it stood alone. The unusual and attractive label is apparently a collection of vintage match box labels belonging to Fraser’s grandmother I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong. I have one of these gems left in the cellar. — 5 years ago

Merlot monday. Solid 30 dollar wine from napa.
Preparing my wine contribution for saturday's festivities. Showing some friends around livermore wineries so picked out some wines to show the terroir. These are my top 5 livermore wineries. And a couple napa wines for dinner as well.

Revisiting the Mahé & Ribo Syrah in honor of Sami-Odi taking the number 4 slot of James Suckling's "Top Australian Wines Of 2016." It's now had an additional 8 weeks rest in my cellar since I last sampled it shortly after its arrival to our shores. Wow! Inky purple color with a brooding nose of dark fruits , anise and sweet spices. Super silky tannins which perfectly compliment the dark fruits. A luxurious mouth feel bordering on savory-ness. Full-bodied and vibrant with beautiful structure. Lingering finish. This is not your classic/typical "sweet" Australian Shiraz ( my guess is that Fraser harvests rather early), but the fruit purity and overall structure speaks for itself. Congrats Fraser! I look forward to a long relationship. — 8 years ago
Very dense ruby. Aromas of ripe black plum with a note of prune. Silky palate showing its old vine origins / supple slippery tannins. This wine is instantly loveable by all who taste it and ridiculous value at only $38 back when I bought it. To pay that amount for what is essentially a hand made wine of small production from ancient Shiraz vines is a wonderful thing and explains why Fraser sells out every year in a few weeks. This is my oldest Little Wine (#4) which combines vintages 2012, 2013 and 2014 - all good vintages. Just bought Fraser’s latest offering from the 2018 vintage today - includes Little Wine #9 — 5 years ago
@Delectable Wine this is the 2017 Hoffman Dallwitz. @Fraser McKinley may be able to give you some more details about the name.
This wine would go well with a big ass porterhouse. But this wine needs to be cut with a knife and fork as well! Perfume slaps you across the face after you exert 100 calories trying to get the cork out of the bottle. Black and purple and blue fruits. Baking spices. Cinnamon. Entry is full throttle, but rather soft and rounded. Roasted black fruits, baking spice, roasted nuts. Insane. I'm rather certain that this one is going to be 97/98 in 5-7 years. Has the potential for my first 100! Unfortunately I'm pretty dang certain they will all be gone by then!
Wow! Excellent wine @Fraser McKinley !! — 6 years ago
Beautiful smoke, olive and floral scents fight for attention. A very silky and expressive palate with wonderful fruit concentration. Thank you @Fraser McKinley for motivating me. — 7 years ago

Koenig Vineyards - Fraser Vineyard - 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon — 8 years ago
Inspired by @Fraser McKinley , I had to open this. Unfortunately I could not find the 1996 ( it is hiding somewhere). Shiraz while no longer my go to choice had always been well represented in my cellar. We all know Shiraz went through a period of polarization , thank you RP, however I have always enjoyed producers who got "it" right. The reality is Shiraz will never drink like Burgundy.
Rockford for me is a producer who gets "it". When you pour this into the decanter the color despite its age shimmers a beautiful shade of purple.
On the nose and the palate all the characteristics one comes to expect from a Rockford BP are there: tar, plums, a hint of VA, earth and most importantly well concealed alcohol and structure. It might be in its last year as a teenager but it will remain forever young. — 8 years ago

This Little Wine #6 is a blend of 2016 (47%), 2015 (44%), 2013 (5%), and 2012 (4%) - all good vintages and sourced from that precious old vine material in the Dallwitz vineyard. This wine had an array of black fruits of berry, cherry and currant with hints of spice including clove on the nose. Fraser seems to have a process of picking early so his wines even in ripe vintages like those in the blend are not porty. Always finishing with those silky tannins. A lovely wine at a good price. — 4 years ago
