Four For One

R. López de Heredia

Viña Tondonia Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2009

This has been on my bucket list for a while, and we just got a few bottles in my area. I went in to this with high expectations and it totally delivered. One of the most complex wines I’ve had - there is just so much going on here. The nose on this just doesn’t stop evolving. Beautiful oxidation and so many distinct aromas that I’m not going to rattle them off. Texture, flavor, this has everything to offer for my palate. Need to hunt down an older bottle next time. For me, this lived up to the hype. — 5 years ago

These are so good. This is the reserva no? Gran reserva current release somewhere in the 90s I think...

@Josh Morgenthau correct, it’s the Reserva. I did snag a bottle of the 2010 Grand Reserve Rose though, which I’m pretty pumped to try.

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Truly one of the better 2000’s I’ve had. Needs an hour or more to open up but glorious fruit and texture once it does. Silky like cashmere. Black fruits galore. Better to hold your bottles for another five years. The best is yet to come. — 7 years ago

OMG this bottle gave new meaning to the minty characteristics this wine is known for. Perfect bottle and truly a worthy contender against any first growth. Refined, structured, and elegant. Find one, drink it. — 8 years ago

69, wow. My wife and I went to Heitz on our honeymoon 1969. The mint flavor I believe comes from eucalyptus trees near Martha’s vinyard

Correct, though many would argue that’s a figment or our imagination and that outside effects in soil have no bearing on aromatic or flavor profiles.

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2003

The Feraud family are widely regarded as one of the leading producers in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and their property extends over 11 vineyards. Had this blend of 75% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5%, mostly Mourvèdre & Counoise, at a private tasting. Aged for 18 months, wine was still tasting great. Deep red with brown edges and dark fruit aromas with complex earthy spices. Blackberry and cherry, rich full-body with soft tannins, gentle sweetness with some pepper spice ending with an earthy tone. Tasting Sample. — 10 years ago

Belle Glos

Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

This is a big Central Coast Pinot. 2013 Las Alturas Santa Lucia Highland. Dark Cherry fruit. Silky with balance front to finish. Its drinkable now but I would hold on to it for another 3-4 years. Because its big and fruit forward, not my favorite style Pinot, I wouldn't hold over 6 years. This is my first from the Las Alturas. I paired it with Alaskan Salmon but it would pair much better with duck, game hen or quail. You could even enjoy this big boy with grilled steak and veggies. One of the darkest Pinots I have experienced from this region.

After letting this wine sit and open up I am getting blackberry and some currants and spice. Still a very rich and big Pinot. I will say it is enjoyable on its own.

Enjoy, drink what you like and like what you drink!

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 1987

When we open from 1987, we expect everything. One thinks of its conservation in cellar, the risk that it is passed or incredible, with the tannins having evolved in this vial ... The cork pulled-out, in perfect state and one knows in advance that one hit the jackpot and that it will be phenomenal. A coppery robe, a complex nose with aromas of black and floral fruits. In the mouth, an explosion of flavors that take the length and makes us go back in time. A very large estate for an incredible wine, to fall 😍🍷 — 8 years ago

Another visit to this lovely wine and another confirmation that 2008 was a great vintage and most probably one of the best value vintages in the last decade in Bordeaux. The wine is rich, round, elegant and smooth, already ready for drinking, with earthy notes, coffee, black current, wild berries, full round body, lovely tannins, elegant long finish. A pleasure. My score 91, drink to 2025 — 9 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2000

For centuries now, the luscious, bright, all-encompassing delight of Champagne has been used to toast happy occasions. Often times a decent bubbly does the trick, but other times, something grander deserves to be poured.

Dom Pérignon (named after the monk who put Champagne on the map), a 2000 vintage. It's the kind of Champs one drinks upon making the decision that wine is not just a hobby, not just a passion, but a career.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Welcome friends to Dr Todds wine bar. Today we are tasting Artemis by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. This is the 2012 Cab. It is their cheapest cab and its still 45 dollars. Imagine that! My taste is too expensive for my wallet!
The cork has a perfect absorption line with a very very small rim in perfect lineage! no breaks . The color is opaque and dark purple / black just like I like it. The legs are long at 5 sec. The initial boquet is a bit disappointing. There is a hint of perfume. But if we let it breathe for 15 min, its gone. Then we have ripe plum. The initial palate is sour apple and sweet plum. Sweet and sour like youve never had! There is no spice. The finish is amazing. This is where it gets good! It is very dry but not to the point of not being able to move your mouth. The tongue has a dry grip on the lower half from the base to the tip. Then its gone!!!!! No aftertast at all. The one thing about this wine is it never lets you down! its always the same. A great wine for the price.

Château Cheval Blanc

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1961

I have tasted many 1961 over the years, this continues to be one of my favorite wines...The strange thing is that this bottle with its high necklinewas the youngest 1961 that I had ever tried, wine had an great Providence - One owner and one incredible cellar.

1961 was a magical year on the right bank; now over 50 years of age it has lost some weight but picked up elegance on the nose - wet clay, graphite/lead pencil, umami/truffle - nose candy for sure.

Insignia Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2012

A great time at The Capital Grille deserves some great wines. We had a few and ran the Napa gamut. The Insignia was up first and it did not disappoint. They always have a nice complexity of flavors battling it out for attention. One moment it is an early blackberry and the next it is a bright plum. Truly enjoyable. — 10 years ago

Krug

Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne Blend

My love for Krug knows no bounds. Bready, yeasty notes jump out of the glass towards you but quickly soften into those of honey butter. Ginger and spice notes. Lees driven but well integrated with medium high acid. This champagne is so complex that it's almost impossible to truly detect where one note of flavor ends and the other begins. — 11 years ago
