Delicious delicious. Dark and rich. Well blended. Even at this age it will go several more years. The flavor is just amazing. The roundness is there. Yum. — 6 years ago
The fruit jumps out at you. Best in a Pinot glassware even though it’s Syrah. Beautiful aromatics. — 6 years ago
In game, with curry. Such a fortunate one to drink a bottle of this every year. Even if it is only one bottle, considering myself lucky. — 7 years ago
Right after opening the wine it was awesome. We thought it would get even better with opening up. It lost the mid and finish after about 45 minutes. Our fault. Next time we will drink faster. — 7 years ago
Did a 20 year vertical. It was a moment of zen. Did it with friends, even better... And had a really cool som walk us through every year. World class. Thanks CD — 8 years ago
What can be said about d'Yquem can only be expressed in poetry, even in a modest vintage like 1998. It is an inner sanctum, a fragrant garden, a poignant release that is both profound and glorious. Descriptors cannot do it justice, sensual and honey-drenched layers of apricots, vanilla bean, creme brûlée and almond pastry. Viscous and glycerol-laden in the mouth, offset by dazzling acidity, dried fruit—quince, more apricots. A silken, pure, honey-spun web of delight. I'm rambling, but d'Yquem does that. — 9 years ago
It is my first day on this app, so I decided to rate this old bottle of wine I had two years ago with Florence. As it is profiled, 1949 is a great vintage and this particular bottle proved it is quite right, even though the bottle had a below shoulder fill. Brownish red color, silky, perfectly balanced, great long finish. Also, since 1949 is the year when People's Republic of China was founded, it added some emotional thing to the taste as well😋 — 9 years ago
Expecting a "Caymus" finish and not even close! — 9 years ago
An ICON. Superb, even belonging to a big big corporation. — 10 years ago
Nothing needs to be said. Great wineries make great wines even in not so great vintages — 10 years ago
Mature, elegant, harmonious wine that has aged well. Distinctive tertiary notes in the wine give this a definite Old World personality despite having that classic core of fruit even restrained wines take on in Napa. I bet this was singing on its 20th Birthday. — 6 years ago
When it comes to my B-day, there is only one fit, an old Pichon Lalande with my Ribeye. As a lover of Bordeaux, these two are my favorite pairing. It’s a very slow walk to the finishline. A small bite of steak and a sip of 89 Pichon Lalande. Then, repeat until finished. I had some concerns about this bottle. A slightly slippery and crumbling cork. The first sip was not bad, but not what you want or are expecting. After some time in the decanter, it really started to shine. On the nose; ripe, ruby, floral cassis, blackberries, dark sweet & sour cherries, baked strawberries, blue fruit hues, dry cranberries, baked rhubarb, saddlewood, soft, used leather, bay leaf, touch of sage, hint of spearmint, eucalyptus, vanilla, cinnamon, crushed dry crushed rock powder, black turned earth, dry brown soil with clay, tobacco leaf and perfumed red florals with violets. The body is full, round and silky. Tannins are well resolved at around 80%. The texture, length, tension and length are in a sweet spot. The fruits are ripe, ruby & expressively floral. Blackberries, dark sweet & sour cherries, baked strawberries, blue fruit hues, dry cranberries, baked rhubarb, saddlewood, soft, used leather, bay leaf, touch of sage, hint of spearmint, eucalyptus, vanilla, cinnamon, crushed dry crushed rock powder, black turned earth, dry brown soil with clay, scorched earth, tobacco leaf and perfumed red florals with violets. The acidity is just a little off but still nice. The finish is divided nearly equally in fruit, earth, florals and herbaceous. It’s very enjoyable but falls just a little short in longer, lingering length. This bottle had good storage, not great. Even so, still has another three to five years ahead. A bottle with excellent storage has another five years beyond this one. Photos of; the backside of Pichon Lalande, angled terrace view of their vines right next to Latour, my steak & twice baked potato (so good) and CEO Nicolas Glumineau. — 6 years ago
I've had this bottle in the cellar for a LONG time (probably past peak)...waiting for the right occasion. Here is to ten eventful years of Builders Bargain. Jammy, delicate flavor. 13 years of aging has given this a very earthy quality. Decanted for 90 minutes but should get even more spectacular through the evening. Cheers! — 7 years ago
Dark cherry, cassis. Powerful tannins. Will keep for ages, but delicious even now! — 8 years ago
Amazing how you could smell and taste the fruit in the wine. Even though it has 24 years. Incredible wine. You could definitely store this for many years. — 9 years ago
Quite the funk bomb. Needed time to open but when it did it became much softer and even balanced. tasted like a classic older Bordeaux. — 9 years ago
Superb and otherworldly, notes more like white port than white (or orange) wine, even with faint notes of cork taint — 9 years ago
Clear deep purple colour with watery rim. Clean medium intensity aroma with minty black cherry and black currant with hint of oak smokiness and vanilla. Dry on the palate full bodied medium alcohol with medium acidity and high but smooth velvety tannin. Flavours of earthy black currant, black cherry, and vanilla. Flavours last through into its long pleasant finish. Very good quality, drink now but can age for another 3 to 5 years for a even more balanced complexity. — 10 years ago
One of the greatest wines I’ve had the privilege of tasting. Cab franc is a favorite of mine and to enjoy a top shelf to CF in the world is a treat...not much green pepper, more beef jerky and soy sauce than vegetal notes. Powerful even after hours of being open. Worthy of smelling for days (violet, dusted blackberries). What a pull from @Mark Flesher ! I just had to feel like a part of the WNH tonight after I saw their wines last night! @Martin G Rivard @Bill Bender @Shawn R @David L — 6 years ago
Herbal and still rather tannic and youthful. Leather, mushroom, tobacco, thyme, rosemary, dusted plum. Some redder tones emerge from the black fruit core - strawberry even. A pleasant rusty patina with some gentle, welcome bitterness on the finish. — 6 years ago
Can't remember where we even got this from. — 8 years ago
Perfectly balanced, well integrated, and pairs best with good conversation. Even for an Italian, this Tempranillo gives any Nebbiolo a run for its money. — 9 years ago
OMG--this old
#Latour is so massive that you could eat it with a fork!
One of the greatest vintages of the 20th century, and, even now, this wine has years of life ahead of it!
And to think that I used to work in a wine shop that had cases piled up ten high priced at $50 per bottle! #1959 — 9 years ago
This Pinot Noir is deliciously drinkable on its own, or paired with pork or beef; even tangy fruit. It's tannins are well-balanced and the smooth finish make Meiomi one of my favorites which I always have on-hand. — 10 years ago

D6. Young. Very young. Even though it was decanted and frequently agitated, this one didn't come out to play until almost 2 hr after opening. Nose of Bing cherry and mint. Some red clay must. The entry is very acidic. Black cherry hint but Bing cherry backbone. Herbal middle. Started to show terroir-driven notes to the finish. Youthful and tight tannin. LOTS of life ahead. Be in NO HURRY to drink this one. I'd say optimal drinking time 5 to 10 years. — 5 years ago
