An enigma - pretty, earthy, and with acidity for days. I wish the first half hour could have lasted forever. — 7 years ago
WNH event number 3...new world Pinot. Such a treat to experience the many different variations of Pinot!
Another surprise of the night for me. I’ve only had their Syrahs before. Lots of crushed potpourri and underripe red fruit on the nose with a darker palate of violets, black cherry and plum. I need to get some of these. Awesome bottle, @Bill Bender . — 7 years ago

The most Burgundian styled Pinot of the night. I thought it was fantastic, and still has another few years to get even better. No candied notes, more underripe red fruit (cherry and rhubarb), potpourri, graphite on the nose. Acidity is great. Not quite lean, but not a fruit bomb Pinot. Sage and herbal. Awesome, @Joe Lucca . — 7 years ago
A riddle wrapped in an enigma. Wooly lemony and tense. Chenin lovers would approve. One with which to think whilst having a drink. — 8 years ago
Silky smooth tannins that are so elegant. Layered colors of a paint job done right , visually stunning. Vibrant flavors of cranberry, strawberries, and layers of oak throw the taste buds in overdrive. Complex variations entirely.
I'm enjoying the fruity finish with a limestone like numbing yet not astringent. I NEED ANOTHER BOTTLE! — 9 years ago

Joyous intense fruit alongside that Barbera tannic backbone hits all the right notes, up there with my wine of the year to date — 6 years ago
Took this wine to Al Camino Enigma in Whitianga, New Zealand. They serve Greek and Italian cuisine. — 7 years ago

This, alongside the ‘09 Rivers-Marie Summa OV and the ‘12 Marcassin, were all tied (in my opinion) for WOTN. This is a massive Pinot and benefitted from some air time. Cherry liqueur like enter which then turns darker to a black cherry baked pie, spice, and candied blackberries. There was a sweet, but not rich, note on the mid palate that reminds me of a mixed berry cobbler. Lengthy and flavor packed finish. Just beginning to enter a prime drinking window. Killer bottle from @Shawn R . — 7 years ago

This was fantastic and in a perfect drinking window. Very floral showing lots of spice and pepper. Red and black fruit dominant. Smoke/charcoal finish with fig. Great bottle @Shawn R . — 7 years ago
So how to describe this wine. Looked oxidized but wasn’t. Smells like some noble rot but we know there isn’t. The wine is a total enigma. Honey, orange marmalade, almond, palate coating but not unctuous. I really enjoy it. — 8 years ago
On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading GERSHWIN (Piano Concerto in F), GERSHWIN (Variations on “I Got Rhythm,” for piano and orchestra) and STRAVINSKY (Petrushka) with the amazing Jean-Yves Thibaude as the piano soloist on the two first works presented today. Jean-Yves is by far among our favorite pianists to grace the Koussevitzky Shed stage, so graceful, yet poignant!
Hot days call for cool wines, today there are some fun ones planned for sharing.

One of my bottles. After getting these in a few weeks back, I was like a kid on Christmas to see how it was tasting. All the check marks for this to be a knockout in a few years. Wonderful red and black fruit medley with sharp acidity. Mineral/graphite on the palate and sandalwood. Toasted black cherries and ripe plum. — 7 years ago

Older Marcassin pinots...what more can be said other than special. However, I think this one was quite muted on the nose and wasn’t entirely as expected. Age has leaned this out, and the red and black fruits are battling with earth and herbal components. Dirty raspberries and bay leaf on the finish. Even a slightly off bottle of Marcassin is impressive, so thanks for bringing, @David L ! — 7 years ago
Opened up nicely. Bold yet balanced. Paired well with aged prime rib and potatoes. Well executed Israeli wine. — 8 years ago
A bright floral nose I could just take on all night. First taste is an enigma, but the peppery heavy earthy finish really delivers. Amazing wine. — 9 years ago
Tart and zippy up front, moving into some nice depth. Alsace continues to be a great enigma. Love it. — 9 years ago
Complex variations on a California zin theme. Finishes moderately tannic and charred. Smart and fun. — 9 years ago

Yellow-white, excellent clarity. White floral and lemon peel notes in nose. Candied lemon fruit flavor, slight trace of lemon fruit sweetness with a core of lemon pulp tartness, good acidity overall, mineral finish with lingering lemon fruit flavor. Really intriguing varietal, well made wine. Five variations on fresh lemon expression in a white table wine? It could be, impressionistically, at least. — 6 years ago
