Very old vines! Kerner from E&M. Cellar tasting in May 2024. This grape is a cross between Schiava & Riesling - And voilà 💥finally a riesling like wine from E&M. I asked for something like this for years!

Surprisingly close in style to the JJ from Martin Woods. Sweet Pinot fruit and cherry 🍒 but perhaps with an edge more to morello cherries. Build towards a drink now Burgh. 13.5%. I must say in the end after trying gazillion of burghs, Oregon and Cali Pinots. And lots of wine from Baden. The German - Enderle & Moll Pinots are the only Pinot which can hold my interest for longer than any other producer in the world. — a year ago

🍒, rasberries, lime, plenty of tannins left, really well made, essentially like a red burgh at a much better price. In my quest to move on from the overpriced burgs this is a clear winner. Heugumber - Aka - Grasshopper in the local dialect spoken in the three corners area of Germany, France and Switzerland. Very juicy with fantastic aromatics reminiscent of a light Chardonnay. Hazelnut, minerals, crisp, just 11%. The Chasselat Grape is a very old Grape called Gutedel in Baden. World class really. Came in a suitcase from my friend Christoph to the US. Enderle & Moll make one as well I am looking forward to try their version. Essentially unknown in the US. — 3 years ago

A cold, rainy day in the Berkshires today, several degrees cooler and we'd be getting snow instead. I'm not ready, still yardwork to get done this season!

A head-to-head matchup today, '15 vs. '16 E&M 'Müller' Müller-Thurgau. This '15 is our last bottle, so this is the final evolution check. 😕

No evidence of dissolved gas (CO2 or N2) in this bottle like the '16 showed, but it got a decant anyways. Gold-yellow in color, distinctly different from the '16 today.

Nose has smoked honey, almonds, tropical fruit skins, extra ripe mango and light aroma of crushed minerals.

Palate has gotten crazy complex, honey, stone fruits, pineapple core, tangerine, lemon pith and mashed tropical fruit. Evolving more with each sip, finish is picking up a nice apricot note.

Wow what a difference the extra year makes. Likely we're hiding the remainder of our '16 away for maybe a year or two, hopeful on a similar evolution. — 7 years ago

From Lyle Fass via his email. Only ca. 1000 bottles made each year. Lighter then the Koepfle. Limited acidity a great wine too but i prefer the Koepfle tonight. Chalk and back palate blackberry. Another burgundy beater. Lyle thank you‼️for importing these. Tell Hendrick he has a big fan in CA. So far along with Enderle & Moll which are more herbaceous these and theirs are probably some of the best pinot's 💰 or connections can buy. I would prefer this over some DRC's. — 8 years ago

Blackberry nose. Relative dark seems lighter than the Köpfle. Less interesting wine compared to the Köpfle and closer in taste to the Ziereisen(s). Blackberry, tealeaves VERY good but not a standout in the top leagues from BADEN aka the Gran Crus from Enderle and Moll. — 9 years ago

E&M’s new top whites (with new labels) are pure genius - Cellar tasting 05/15/2024. This is skin contact Pinot Gris from old vines. Orange but clean and filtered no funk at all. This is simply the best I ever had. Ridiculous pretty amber color, quince jam, tart apricot, port wine and stone fruits. I am addicted. Florian Moll is ‘the man’. Unless the Michelin ⭐️ ‘s gobble this up (I heard from Florian dishes are being designed for this wine). — a year ago

I’ve only experienced quality Spatburgunder with Enderle & Moll, so tasting this Savio Soares import ( in proper Pinot stemware) felt like another revelation. Peppery & fresh, but enough mid weight to accompany a burger & a green gazpacho, & enough layers & acidity to keep it interesting. Gorgeous. — 3 years ago

14.5% essentially a California fruit bomb in French clothing. They are really loosing it the French. Cherry over the top. May be this will loose its fruit over time. Now I am not impressed especially vis-a-vis the 2019 Liaison Enderle & Moll. May be this had to be done with the high taxes imposed in the Trump era. — 3 years ago

Plummy Nose almost like Port. Very dark for a Pinot quite extracted. Dark fruit, blackberry, very dark cherries and plum. Spices; hint of allspice. Graphite. If Enderle & Moll is the Yin this is the Yang of German Pinot. Reminds me of a good Denis Mortet. Really well made. Needs to integrate a little more. Since this is the second very convincing vintage from GOLD I can now recommend this producer. A spectacular wine and serious buy for my cellar in future. Impressive. This is INSANE. Look at that color. Lovely nose that is deep, ethereal and penetrating. Spice, flowers and wow what lift. 9.8 nose. Wow wow wow. Wet earth, wilted roses, cranberry bog and more. This is so ephemeral and penetrating. Oolong tea and just so much more but it is round and so detailed and friendly and profound. Just sick. Palate is god tier. So sapid and elegant with ridiculous complexity and light as a feather but not lacking intensity by a long shot. Wow. Nose has tree bark, desiccated leaves and citrus rind now. Sweet, juicy, confectionary and concentrated but all above that it is wispy. Fruit is all red and reminds me of Enderle and Moll from back in the day. Man is this elegant and I cannot wait to see how this develops. Now after an hour this is ga great. Nose has insane, dizzying spice that is just unconscious. The palate is so sweet, so round, yet has mid season fruit levels of ripeness. The energy, linearity and focus are top notch. Insane sweetness and length. 9.6 to 9.7 after an hour. — a year ago

A big wine. Sells for 60 Euros which is steep and at 14,5% it clocks in. Cherry, non offensive and just too nice. For sure a Pinot on the top of its game. But for me it does not really provide a sense of place like for example the ones from Enderle & Moll. — 3 years ago

Allen Brothers Lava Cakes/Soufflé & 1977 Port. Pinch me!

Whenever I have wine this old, I always ask the people I share it with, what were you doing in 1977?

The beautiful thing about really old Port is how it softens all the edges & the elevated ABV. Smooth as silk.

This was a 375ml and farther along than a 750ml. The color was more Tawny than Port at this point. Wine on the leaner side. The fruits were; Thompson raisins, dates, figs, prunes, and some dried blackberries. Caramel, molasses, melted brown sugar, Cognac & Brandy presence, subtle wood shaving, nuts, butterscotch, graham cracker, dark withering flowers with beautiful acidity. The long finish was; rich, polished, well balanced, smooth and persistent for minerals.

If we had gone out for this dinner, it would have been $2500 plus tip & it wouldn’t have been this good which, is why we choose to cook rather than go out.

From the March 2018 Shipment. A touch of Enderle & Moll from California but for more $. Only 13.1%. Chalky herbaceous nose. Tart cranberries, orange 🍊 rind and underripe raspberry. This will probably not gain a lot of weight in the future but lovely now if you into tart wines. The tartness will mellow out in a year or so and then this will be really elegant - A Calburg. — 7 years ago
