Reserva Rioja Tempranillo 2016

1st wine of my birthday annual home-organized blind tasting (organized by my wife and daughter). I called it tempranillo from spain while smelling it with my eyes blinded but changed my mind and called it a Beaujolais when the blind was removed...
Very nice nose made of oak, some raspberry and currant notes, some meaty touches too along with a minty thing. The palate is very well made with a strong acid drive, making this wine very quaffable. Some raspberry notes all along, some drying tannins in the rear, a bit of oak and fruit in the rear, playing amongst these gentle tannins and giving way to a nice umami note in the very end. It was served along Japanese veggie gyoza with soy sauce. Great pairing!

Rioja Sauvignon Blanc 2021

I was a bit doubtful of Sauvignon Blanc grown in Rioja. However, this version happens to turn into a Goldilocks of a wine. It has just enough ripe fruit, in the style of ripe yellow citrus, balanced by some Stony acidity. It is a good all purpose white that will lease both new world and old world palates. — a year ago

Gran Reserva Rioja White Blend 2014

This gem from the Rioja region is a treat. It presents with black cherry after decanting and has an earthy mouth feel. This is quite enjoyable and stands well on its own or with a nice stew. I highly recommend if you can find it. — 3 years ago

@vinokeeno I’m generally a fan of the less small French barriqued Riojas. Less gloss, more tertiary/secondary flavors.
Thanks,

Rrrrrrrraowr! Mushroom and potting soil, prime rib and rosemary. Get the fudge outta my way! Can’t! Dark chocolate dominates in graphite-plum and agro-tannin cedar, cinnamon and tobacco force the issue and the black currant is AGGRESSIVELY assertive! Got black pepper in white pepper sauce! Iron rich liver grill without the bitter; shellfish shell, prune and blackberry show sour aspects and oak tannins spread the word. Spanish oak and sensibility prevail. Beast and the best of such.

Incredibly funky aromas of earth and barnyard. Pallet is completely different with hints that d bright red fruits and licorice. Incredibly complex. Well structured and well balanced. Soft tannins. — 2 years ago
