Nice wine for $20. Cherry fruit and some healthy tannins, but relatively light. Nice with turkey; would be good with a lot of foods — 2 years ago

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

Been sick for a week, not all the way better, but today is Valentine’s Day and we’re having wine with dinner. Aromatics are alluring with high toned red fruit & a black tea note. The palate shows beautifully ripe red fruit leading to darker spicier notes and a textural tannic grip. Lots to unpack over the years with this as these 16’s will only get better with time. Happy Valentine’s Day! — 6 years ago

This was drinking very well tonight. Ripe dark cherry and raspberry. Hints of tar, roasted meat and minerals. Full feel on the palate, smooth tannins. — 7 years ago

I am finding that the ‘02 and ‘03 burgundies are drinking really well right now. Glad to know ‘00 is doing the same.

Base vintage 2015. Disgorged Nov. 2019. Far outperforms for an estate’s basic wine. Relatively full-bodied, complex, and very satisfying. Now I’m interested in exploring their higher qualities. — 5 years ago

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2005

No formal notes . Medium garnet Ruby. Quite floral still , light red fruits, cherry . Sweet fruits on the palate but quite tannic still , with refreshing and bright acidity . Quite a big wine on the palate , with darker fruits. Intense with good length . Starting to drink well from now , and over the next 10 years I would imagine — 10 months ago

mmmm. started out super funky, dark juicy fruit, milky. as it sat for a minute it warmed up and got more tannic and chewy. say medium tannin, balanced by medium acids and dryness. definitely bolder but not overwhelmingly so. super enjoyable. i love seb david ❤️ — 5 years ago

Maison Nicolas Perrin

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2013

Got into a northern Rhone last night. Dark purple. Youthful. Decanted for 2 hours to dissipate some of the heat from the alcohol. It opened up much better than the last bottle. It has a nice balance of peppery spice and blueberry/bramble. It also had some mint and a savoury hoisin side to it, although it notably lacked any hint of liquorice. I’m okay with that as that really isn’t my draw. It has a very well defined structure but tannins are not grippy; just pleasantly present. Medium plus acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannin. A perfect accompaniment to our night by the fire. Could easily last and suggest to most palates that they wait another 5-10+. Probably best with food. — 7 years ago
