Clos des Ducs Monopole Volnay Pinot Noir 2013

Marquis d’Angerville “Clos des Ducs” 2013- Needed a lot of time get going. Initially quite austere and not very giving but comes around after a sufficient decant to show a lovely purity and elegance. The bouquet is quite beautiful. But 2013 definitely needs more time for the palate to come together. — a month ago

Le Marquis Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Yes, the “green”
note from the Vinous review is there but it is very high/front palate. Still oodles of structure, fruit, balance and drinkability that minimizes it. Starts as green bell pepper initially, then trends toward mint. Second bottle in a little over a week. First bottle was a monster. Second bottle a little more restrained. Where exactly does the truth lie? In the middle as usual? More deep investigation required…**EDIT**Green note gone the next day/24 hrs later after leaving half the bottle in the fridge w/o any preservation techniques other than putting the cork back in the bottle/refrigeration.

Champans Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2008

Nose has dehydrated cherry, faded Fall rose, dried blackberry, mild cedar, wet leather and moist baking spice.

Palate has dried raspberry, dried cherry, tart cranberry, cherry Twizzlers, dehydrated strawberry with light tannins and a medium+ finish. Satisfying for the vintage.

Decanted 3H.

Paired to an apple wood smoked rotisserie chicken, 24H salt brine, 12H dry rest, olive oil/Za'atar rub. Locally obtained (Mill River Farm, New Marlborough, MA) and roasted for ~110M. A challenge to outdoor cook in the cooler New England Fall temps of 50°F (10°C) today, but we made it successful with a hot grill. Local root vegetables roasted, below the turning bird, always a great combination.

@Paul T- Huntington Beach Acquired about 8Y ago at $95USD, at present Euro conversation (10/2022) value is ~€82. Might be worth more more than my purchase but 🤷🏻‍♂️.
