Discrete nose of white fruit with pears and also a slight minty and smoke feel, very discrete. The palate is gorgeous, such balance between the perfect acidity and slight richness of fruit and elegance. Another great 2017 CDB. 90-91
Nez discret de poires et une touche de menthe et de fumée mais sans déranger. Le vin est délicieux, quel équilibre entre cette tension appuyée et cette richesse de fruit, juste parfait. Un autre beau blanc 2017. 90-91 + — 6 years ago

The first audible of the night was this stunning 2015 Hubert Lignier M-S-D 1er VV that John pulled out in between the Rabbit and Beef courses. Full disclosure, I get twitterpated when a bottle of H. Lignier gets opened. There’s just something in the style that’s mesmerizing across the range, from the Passetoutgrain to the Clos de la Roche. These are wines of power and grace. Well fruited but with layers of complexity. John considers this to be the best value of H. Lignier’s offerings. Hard to argue. — 7 years ago

This was great! A little funky of nose, super mineral with gentle hints of lemon and pretty high-toned greenness. A steal for 20GBP. Look forward to bottle #2! Cardiff/hotel — 10 years ago

This is delicious, though from a riper vintage so a bit more round and luscious than normal. Crunchy minerality, soft oak notes and starting to develop the walnut/hazelnut and bruised apple and pear that time provides. Classy stuff, indeed. — 11 years ago
Bright, young and vibrant. Very tasty. — 5 years ago
Steely finish, lemony and lots of mineral — 6 years ago
From a producer I really enjoy - in fact a 1998 clos de la roche from Lignier was one of the wines that got me very interested in burgundy several years ago. This probably needs a couple more years but was enjoyable with a 2 hour decant. A bit of green stemminess on initial pop, which mostly dissipates. Lots of dark cherry. Very mouth filling with green herbs. Quite balanced with a nice refreshing finish with good acid. For $40 a buy for sure to see how it develops. — 6 years ago

My goodness this was delicious. Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Enjoyable on Day 1 after a few hours of air and through Day 3 as it slowly evolved. Initially very tightly wound. Red plums, earth and wet rocks. So pure and so energetic. Incredible length. This just seems to hang on. After trying this (and their transcendent Clos de la Roche), it’s clear that Hubert and Laurent are wizards. Quality at every level. Bravo. — 8 years ago
Pale gold. Nose of medium+ intensity showing stone fruits meal, oyster shell , toasty oak and leesy notes. Palate shows the same stone fruit and oak notes but all in perfect balance. Long finish. A very good wine but will cellar. Priced at $120.84. Wine of the day at WSET Level 3. — 10 years ago
Recognizable as sauv blanc, but so different from my frequent New Zealand sauv blancs. No grapefruit or grassiness. No cat pee. Just classic sauv blanc fragrance and minerality. — 10 years ago

This is my first Burgundy (so that skews the rating) but it's omg delicious. Nose is all candied cherries and spice. Tastes goes from fruit, to pepper, to a soft gamey flavor. Delicate and watery on finish. Hubby who likes intense, dark wine and beer says, " I like it because it has flavors." — 12 years ago
Stunning richness. Slightly premoxed. Good acidity. — 6 years ago
Very nice example of Sancerre. Well worth it; from Chez Foushee. — 6 years ago
Oaky. Floral. Honeysuckle. — 6 years ago
This is a YOUNG WINE. I decanted for 2-3 hours and it really benefitted. I’ve had it at 8 years and it really shines. Very enjoyable now with some air but clearly more to say in the future. — 7 years ago
On the nose closed. On the palate ... basically an orgy. Ridiculous umame. Savory. Rich. But acidically balanced. If that’s a word. With chicken in cream sauce this would be heaven. Check back in 18 months. The upside on this wine could be very very high. The downside is just really delicious. Ok an hour in this is sick. I mean sick and profound. Internal aromatics are kicking in. Incredible wine. Do not touch for 18 months. Once the nose kicks in this will be a bucket list experience. — 9 years ago
2012 vintage. Pale lemon hue. Quite round on the nose and creamy oak, ripe lemon and short-cake - reminds me of Chablis but with less minerality. On the palate, powerful attack of concentrated ripe lemon fruits and hints of apricot. High acidity, medium body and medium plus concentration. Real bite on the finish. There's an elegance in the mid palate and a decent finish. Good now but drink until 2025. — 10 years ago
