Dirt Diva

Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay 2015

A mild earthy, sanguine note, that is masked by sweet, big red brambly fruit with slight floral notes. Medium acid, good tannins. Cranberry, red apple skins with dirt and tar finish. — 8 years ago

Dirty & Rowdy

Shake Ridge Ranch Mourvedre

With a little decanting the fruit really shines. Such dirt and grit and old world thickness and mouthfeel. But all those black fruits dedicated. With figs and bay leaf and tarragon. A meal in itself. Just lovely. — 10 years ago

Azienda Agricola Le Ragnaie

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2009

Very nice Brunello even though it's from an unheralded vintage. Tasted like the dirt of Italy with some tobacco and cherry mixed in — 10 years ago

Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC Schioppettino

9.5

Love the comments on this wine about "dirt and cherries," @Jaime Godinez or "half Beaujolais and half Syrah," @Scott Barber, really true, Schioppettino is an interesting contrast of grapey fruit vs peppery foresty mineral characters. This is a great rendition of this rare varietal. — 11 years ago

I had the distinct pleasure of tasting this wine Monday in Seattle. The mag was open for 2 hours and still hAd that tannic bite. Along with the over-the-top complex notes of dirt, tobacco, dark cherries, etc. I will surely remember this pour. $383 / 98pts. — 13 years ago

Bandol Mourvedre Blend 2011

9.5

I love this wine! Probably my favorite for so many reasons! Barnyard, mud, cow shit, and French oak on the nose. Tobacco, smoke, tar, and dirt on the palate. If I had to nitpick, the finish could be longer. I now agree with something I read in a book today. Your favorite wine doesn't have to be the one with your highest rating! — 8 years ago

Well done, matured beautifully and still needs time. Deep dark red, nose full of coffee, tobacco, cherries, cassis, dirt and cigar box, full body, rich, ripe, firm rich fruity tannins, good acidity, long chewy finish and a lasting smoky note. My score 91, drink to 2023 — 9 years ago

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend

A really lovely wine showing hints of eucalyptus, currants, wet dirt and moss. Over the course of a few hours the tannins calmed and the wine hit an elegant stride. I was surprised to see so much new oak which is my only criticism as it was a dominate feature through the entire bottle. Wish I had a more of this. — 8 years ago
