Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend

1990 vintage. Beautifully integrated in both the nose and taste profiles. Raspberry, hint of baking chocolate, rhubarb, allspice. At the top of the bell curve but it's got tremendous staying power and should hold steady for at least 8-10 more years in current mode. — 7 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

What you would expect from Silver Oak. On the nose, green bell pepper, mint, rose, and cherry. On the palate, sour cherry, strawberry, green bell pepper, medium plus tannins, but still very smooth. #lifeisacabernet #winelife #napavalleycabs #bigredwines — 8 years ago

Yarivyo Wine Score the 81 is an average vintage but the wines are really great now and more approachable than vintages such as 1985, 1986, 1988 and 1990.

I actually find the vintages if the 80s approachable and delicious, I don't like Bordeaux to mature ... So I actually focus on the 90s these days , cheers

Château Cos d'Estournel

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Remarkably mellow for only thirteen years old. Edges pushing mahogany with a dense ruby center. Asian spice, sandalwood, leather, damson plum. After decanting act two begins. Cassis comes to the fore and it gains power. Much more full bodied than at first pour. Where at first we thought it had peaked now it’s added several more years. Two sips left and see there’s still a youthfulness to its fruit. Just needed a breath of air. Holy cow! Sexy wine. Luscious. Mouth-filling. Shoulda bought the magnum. — 6 years ago

Catherine et Pierre Breton

Les Perrières Bourgueil Cabernet Franc 2009

Classic cab franc, just love it
Graphite and bell pepper on the nose, blueberry in the mouth
Tannins have rounded out, but enough remaining for any of you lucky souls having more of this in the cellar to hold out for another year or two

Dark ruby red with a purplish hue. Good dark fruits on the nose with some forest floor and truffles. Light bell peppers in the finish. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and medium bodied. Lots of soft dark fruits and damp leaves. Medium plus finish. Great restaurant wine and solid Sonoma Cabernet. Drink till 2022. — 8 years ago

Château Sociando-Mallet

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

This bottle was in a great, great place--lots of expressive floral notes like iris and violet, still plenty of blueberry, blackberry, and cherry fruit, refreshing green notes like fresh cut herbs, green bell pepper, and pencil shavings. Aromatic, and integrated, this has richness but also a Loire-like restraint. Like a swing and a hit right from the sweet spot. — 8 years ago

You know, there was a little, but it didn't feature very heavily! Maybe like the meatiness of roasted eggplant, or it was expressing as the floral / spicy components rather than barnyard. The fruit was juicy, too, not dried out! Some would want more density on the palate and a more elegant finish (this one got a little rustic toward the finish, but some clear plummy notes and fresh herbs stuck around for a while).

One more thing I'll add: I was really surprised at the quality of this, even as someone who loves this wine generally! For a not-celebrated vintage at 15 years, all my dreams come true.

Canterbury Vineyard Syrah 2014

Nice smooth body 😉.
Jokes aside was shocked how good this Syrah is. Full bodied, chocolate covered in cherries (yes that way around) with a hint of cherries covered in chocolate mixed in with some plums (tastes like ripen in plum barrels?). Good intensity!

Goes well with spicy food , it stands it's ground in regards to density and volume. And taste. love it!

Concha y Toro

Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

It's time for my Friday's Cabernet fix. This time, a wonderful Chilean Cabernet.

Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.

Beautiful nose of blueberries, blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, earth, spices, peppercorn, leather, bell pepper, sage, peppermint, eucalyptus and smoke.

Full bodied with medium acidity and beautiful long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cherries, figs, cloves, herbs, earth, cola, vanilla, oak, spices, light vegetables, coffee, chocolates, bell pepper, tobacco, beef jerky and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper.

An elegant, Single Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, with lots of complexity and fitness, but not fully balanced yet.

Still young now, but very enjoyable by itself, and better with BBQ Meats. I paired it with a cheese platter, crackers and nice company.

Grapes are grown at the foot hills of the Andes Mountains, on stony soils. 99% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc.

14.5% alcohol by volume.
