From Les Poyeaux. 40-yr-old vines. After about 20 minutes or so really spreads its wings. My last bottle but this has years of development left. Clos Rougeard who?? — 9 years ago
So fresh and perfectly mature. Not at all overripe. Great wine I'll probably never have again. At La Rotisserie de La Tour d'Argent. — 9 years ago
One of the best white wine values I know. He is disciple of Clos Rougeard — 10 years ago
this is killing it. better than most things. incl. clos rougeard. — 12 years ago
Nice context point to the Rougeard. Much leaner with a nice mineral kick. Never heard of this producer before. — 9 years ago
2014. Old vine Cabernet Franc growing directly out of solid limestone. It's taken me a while to wrap my brain around the greatness of Thierry Germain's wines. They are coiled springs unfolding in a slow trajectory towards pristine black raspberry fruit and scents of rain-washed earth. Dare I say finer examples of raw Saumur-Champigny terroir than Clos Rougeard. — 9 years ago
Like the Rougeard of the northern rhone for me. Who knew cornas could make beautiful women like this? Hell yes please more please — 9 years ago
If you want to taste a cracking good Saumur that speaks the region and the varietal without paying the bullshit prices of Rougeard or Guiberteau - buy a whole case, instead of a bottle or two of those others - drink and enjoy with friends - instead of fondling them like a perv! Thanks Daniel J for finding this and brining sanity to this great region. 2011 vintage. — 10 years ago
It's not Clos Rougeard, but it was damn good! — 10 years ago
Great in a way completely different from the Rougeard. Much brighter fruit, lots of lanolin, some oxidized Apple. Excellent expression. — 10 years ago
Yes, Clos Rougeard is better, but this is a quarter of the price. Animated red fruits swirl around a dense core of blacker fruits. Red and purple flower perfume abounds. Just enough brett to feel rustic and handmade, and what greenness it has is a pleasant herbal counterpoint to the intensity of the fruit. Ashy-gravel notes abound on the inorganic side. Drink now or hold for 15+. One of the great cabernet franc producers. — 10 years ago
Like clos rougeard but not quite. — 8 years ago
Excellent Cabernet Franc from Les Poyeux in Saumur-Champigny Champigny in the heart of the Loire. This is the real deal and in the mold of the style like Sylvan Dittiere, Thierry Germain, and Joguet, maybe not quite as precise as Guiberteau or as structured and refined as Rougeard. Deeply red fruited nose and palate that show some pepper and cedar with a vein of minerality and a waft of lifted buttered brioche toast. A great look into Les Poyeux, the site made famous by Rougeard.

2002. Similar style to the Rougeard and just as good! — 9 years ago
Very expressive and well knit Franc - lovely middle fruit and persistent length! Blew the rougeard off the table! — 10 years ago
Dang Gina! Rougeard worthy! — 11 years ago
So elegant! Reminiscent of clos rougeard... — 11 years ago

Servi à l'aveugle pour testé le Clos Rougeard. Fruits noirs, épices, le bois est encore présent et se développe avec l'air bien et en a besoin. Texture soyeuse, belle rondeur. — 8 years ago
