Zebras Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2015

This is a very elegant style of Brunello. Nose has sultry macerated dark cherry, terra cotta tile earthiness, some gorgeous sweet spice notes. In the mouth it’s soft, medium-full, and has some nice complexity. Notes of earthy gravel and porcini mushroom to go along with the rich fruit. Tannins are soft but still provide a nice tactile reference point. Acids are soft. Lengthy finish. — 6 months ago

Villa I Cipressi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

Nice - not spectacular. Shy nose of candied cherries and earth. A little tight on opening - fully expressive in about 3 hours. Palate of raspberries, candied cherries, mossy undergrowth and minerals, rounded out by a kick of clove spiciness. Tannins were grippy but not overwhelming. — 2 years ago

Macchiarossa Tintilia 2016

Deep ruby, and a nose redolent with aromas of plum, blackberry, black cherry, leather, forest floor and stony minerality. Plush, velvety tannins give the wine great body though it could use a touch more acidity to be outstanding. Really enjoyable and a long finish — a great bargain for this under-appreciated grape. — 5 months ago

Pitasso Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2019

OMG comes to mind. Primary flavors of citrus, tropical notes, maybe honey and a waxy note and the acidity to keep it straight. Got to find more.! Great producer. — 2 years ago

Braghe da uve di freisa 2021

ESF
8.9

dark ruby and a fairly reductive nose, this was my first experience with Freisa. red fruited but muted, lots of earth & forest, bramble - big on palate, grippy tannins yet a jolt of acidity. very unusual overall. interesting & cerebral - imagine this complements heavy tomato based dishes — 6 months ago
