Pago de los Capellanes

Tinto Crianza Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 2014

A class act. Cherry and plum. A wine with real intensity and class and only a year in French oak. Terrific — 7 years ago

Antica Terra

Antikythera Pinot Noir 2013

In a line up with GC burgundy, blinded. Had everyone fooled. Volcanic shallow soil and young vines. Meticulous berry sorting.
Shows Oregon can produce wines of world class potential. Still a baby. Cooler vintage less critically acclaimed, but probably more aligned with burgundy lover preferences.

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1998

I was concerned that this was too young and indeed it's absolutely best days are ahead of it but with plenty of air and a good decant it opened up very nicely and showed its class. — 9 years ago

Cullen Wines

Kevin John Margaret River Chardonnay 2012

One of the richest ultra-premium charts in MR. I prefer Leeuwin Art Series and several others before this, but this is world class wine. — 11 years ago

Château Sociando-Mallet

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Delectable Wine
9.0

One of the standouts of the vintage, the 2015 Sociando Mallet is all finesse. Light on its feet, gracious and super-expressive, the 2015 speaks to class above all else. The flavors are bright and beautifully lifted in this polished, sophisticated Haut-Médoc. Although a touch light, the 2015 is very pretty. The blend is 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2018) — 7 years ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Greg Ballington
9.3

Super fun wine to get us ready for the Bordeaux Masters Class this afternoon.

Medium garnet core with bricking in the edges. Layered nose with some definite bret, not off putting at all. Notes of barnyard, leather and dried red cherries. Well integrated and balanced. Moderate tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. Very rustic on the palate with some dried red cherries, forest floor and cedar. Long finish. Enough finesse to go another year or two but why wait, drinking well right now. Drink till 2019.

"Entre Deux Mères" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Really good juice, and I've never been disappointed with DP, even in 2011. The 2012 tonight was elegant and pretty. I'm an AFWE taster perhaps, but I love this more than so many overblown high-pointers. All class. — 10 years ago

Recomiendo el Coudulet de Beacastel, mucho más económico, que nos permite tener una experiencia cercana al château.

An old favorite. Class Sangio goodness that delivers every time. The ‘97 is fully mature but maintains some youthful vibrancy. — 8 years ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Greg Ballington
8.9

Third wine in flight four for the Bordeaux Master's Class at Heart's Delight with wines from Saint Julien and Pauillac.

Deep ruby core. Nose was coated with sweet spices, and dark fruits. Solid acidity and medium tannins (6.5/10). Medium plus bodied and mute. Dark and rustic, a touch savory, and earthy. Dry and mouth watering with a long finish. Drink till 2035.

Château d'Yquem

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1979

Contrary to other wines, D'yquem is in a class of it's own in terms of Sauternes. There is rarely, if ever, a bad year, although some years, like the 2001, stand out more than others. The disparity in quality from a GREAT d'yquem to a mediocre one & so on isn't as drastic as one might imagine. While the older vintages seem to age VERY well, it isn't as discernible from a recent vintage as other wines. Sauternes, in general are consistent, & none more than d'yquem. — 11 years ago
