Medium ruby hue. Aromas and flavors of cherry, sage, tar, vanilla, and violet. Medium-plus body, with medium-plus tannins and high acidity. Lengthy finish. Meaty bouquet surprisingly similar to Northern Rhone Syrah. Rounded and plush. — 2 years ago
Very elegant with silky, polished tannins and lovely floral notes of violet. Leather, black cherry, blueberry, warm wood notes of delicate vanilla, espresso, mocha, tobacco leaf and a background note of mushroom and vanilla. Good long finish.

Thanksgiving. Wow. Violet. Smoke. Meaty. Amazing wine. — 2 years ago
A wine that I have had many times that has been consistent with my prior posts. Notes of black cherry, raspberry, earth, mineral, savory spice & violet. No rush as there is structure & tannins with good acidity that will allow you to cellar for many years. — 5 years ago

At over 20 years old, the 2004 Opus One is showing beautifully, striking a balance between maturity and vibrancy. On the nose, it opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, layered with subtle notes of violet, tobacco, and espresso.
On the palate, the wine is smooth and full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a silky texture that coats the mouth without being heavy. The core is rich with dark fruit—black plum, currant, and a touch of blueberry—balanced by earthy undertones and a whisper of leather. Definitely one of my favorites. — a year ago
The 2008 Cheval Blanc is one of the go-to wines of the vintage. Now at 15 years old, it has retained the energy and focus it displayed from the outset: black fruit, crushed stone, wilted violet petals and touches of forest floor cohere wonderfully in the glass. The Cabernet here is more expressive. The palate has a slight chewiness on the entry, but it "relaxes" in the glass. It shows off its delicate lattice of tannins and perhaps a bit more backbone than I have observed on previous bottles. It's very intense on the finish where, as before, the Cabernet Franc takes charge. Superb. Keep it another three to four years if you can. Tasted at the Lia's Wings/book dinner at Medlar restaurant. Q is for Quinquina. Smells like a fortified wine with slight currant aromas, a good amount of acid gets the tongue tingling, the raisin and currant aromas come through the flavors but the body is light compared to a sherry or tawny port. A very nice aperitif... and we'll see how it does in a cocktail! #atoz2021 — 5 years ago
There is an irony thing in the nose along with violet and rose petals and cherry and a bit of black pepper. This is the nose I fell in love with 10 years ago. The palate is very well designed with a strong acid backbone, a very nice round and radiating fruit, a bit of a sweet touch, some nice oily, scratchy tannins which kick things up for a rather long finish with that fruit, pepper and a long lasting floral aftertaste. So great. This is 7 Euro when you buy it from the winery directly and it's 15 kilometers from where I am right now 😍 — 6 years ago

So gnarly and violet and intense. Iron and dark plum and leather with blood and forest floor. So complex and delicious — 8 months ago
