Château Du Coing De Saint Fiacre

Domaine de la Pépière

Monnières-Saint Fiacre Muscadet Sevre et Maine Melon de Bourgogne 2020

Acquired at the “domaine” in France (I put it in quotes because the winery is way more like a garage) but l it was such a great visit - Remi was friendly, humble and pragmatic. And we got to see how the work really happens in the vineyards (which is no easy feat trying to farm organically with all of that rain and humidity 🤯). The wines at every level so overdeliver for the price.

2020 vintage. lushness from lees and age (glycerol maybe?). Honeyed but not sweet like a Chenin, bay leaf, fennel/mike and Ike’s, Dole canned pineapple, flint.

Orléans Red Blend 2008

Wet leaves and raisins on the nose. A little too tight with alcohol and raw berries on the palate. I think this needs some more time. I'd love to try this bottle in 3-5 years. — 10 years ago

Clos Saint-Fiacre

Orléans Pinot Meunier 2009

Lost this bottle in a corner of the cellar for a few years, and I'm glad I did, as this is much more interesting now than it was a few years ago. This is pinot meunier, and tastes pretty much exactly how you'd think it would taste, like pinot noir with more funk. Starts out a little gamey with a leathery sheen and then turns into a total spice bazaar with some clearly oak-derived woodspice along with more exotic cumin- and coriander-type flavors, which combine to give it the scent of an old wooden spice box. The berry fruit and feminine proportions are very pinot noir-like but it's the other stuff that makes this interesting and more wild. — 11 years ago
