Jarvis Winery

Estate Grown Cave Fermented Finch Hollow Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Jarvis has always been such a unique producer with its incredible underground facility and fascinating lineup of wines. Their Finch Hollow Chardonnays (this one and the Unfiltered version) are outrageously expensive, but they sure know how to deliver on flavor profile.

My notes here are actually quite similar to the 2015 I opened last year, but everything is a touch more restrained. Normally quite rich with expensive oak usage, this seems nicely balanced…it’s almost fresh in profile. Sweet lemon cream alongside marzipan and sea breeze aromatically. From a phenolic standpoint, it’s close to some of the Aubert offerings with its powerful texture. Finishes with a surprising amount of honeysuckle, caramel dipped apple, and honeycrisp. This seems to be built for a bit longer aging compared to the 2015. I’ll be curious to see how the 2018 is.

Terra Valentine

Estate Grown Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A blend of 77% Cab Sauv, 13% Merlot, 7% Syrah, 3% Petite Sirah & 1% Cab Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of rich ripe berry fruits, cedar and earthy herb spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum, with cacao, tobacco and oaky notes. Nice balance, soft chewy tannins, long finish ending with creamy vanilla spice and cedar character. Nice value! — 6 years ago

The Puzzle Spring Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

A tasty Napa Bordeaux blend, well made, slightly high toned and pushing the acidic side of the spectrum. That’s said, was quite enjoyable, but there are certainly others that are at least comparable if not better at this price point. — 7 years ago

The benchmark from which I Judge all Cali Cab Francs. Such a great wine. Just enough fruit, just a tad of spice — 8 years ago

Myriad Cellars

Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

En Magnum. Nice early effort from @Mike Smith - drinking very well. Still some tannic grip on opening. Nice dark fruit/plum, a bit of leather and a touch of green pepper - just enough to add character without dominating. Really nice mouthfeel as well. — 10 years ago

Cave de Saumur

Les Pouches Saumur Chenin Blanc 2018

Lime, peach, cantaloupe, wet rock on the nose. Grapefruit, lime, honeycomb, peach, minerals with medium+ acidity on the palate. Good example of the rich, ripe fruit as well as acidity and freshness this varietal can offer. Great value and super drinkable. — 6 years ago

Lovely yellow hue opens up a powerful nose filled with dirt, grass, rice, and honeysuckle. The palate proceeds to get smothered with a perfect amount of oak coupled with honey and lemon. A mildly tart finish makes this the perfect summer white. Great recommendation by the local rep and Happy 4th to everyone!....a mid-dinner update....massive green apple comes through with food! — 9 years ago

1982 vintage. In magnum. Medium lemon hue with delicate bubbles. Roasted aromas, ripe citrus fruits, almond, smoke. Hints of roasted coffee beans Complex. On the palate, high acidity, medium body, medium alcohol and medium plus concentration. Very long and elegant whilst being surprisingly fresh and moreish. Hard to fault. Drink now until 2026+. — 10 years ago
