Alto Adige - Südtirol Pinot Grigio 2023

This is a 2023 Pinot Grigio, that Delectable is having a hard time with, not allowing me to edit, and shutting down (as a result). Added at Marta. — 4 months ago

Riserva Pora Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2009

Compared to the Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra this still had plenty going on and I think would have gotten better with more time. Some berries and tar stood out but busy evening.

Alto Adige - Südtirol Gewürztraminer 2022

Gold in color.

Beautiful nose with a strong aroma of citrus, lichee, tropical fruits, white flowers, minerals and spices.

Full bodied and elegant with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with apples, pears, light earth, citrus, spices and some plastic notes.

This is a tasty Gewürztraminer from Northern Italy. Interesting and easy drinking.

Buttery and creamy with nice complexity.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$20.

Riserva Asili Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2011

It’s been almost 8 years since I last enjoyed the 2011 Asili and I’m happy to report that it’s still a stunner. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The wine pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of ripe and tart red fruits: raspberries, strawberry, pomegranate, roses, tar, talcum powder, dried green herbs and dry earth. On the palate, the wine is one dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is gorgeous and it’s no wonder I thought so highly of it back in 2017. While this is firing on all cylinders right now, the future remains bright. Drink now through 2041+. Lafóa Alto Adige - Südtirol Sauvignon 2021

Nettle, elderflower, pomelo, a touch of grapefruit, lemon melissa, a touch of green pear. So pure, so fresh. Complex, changes with time. Very enticing.
Beautiful slightly creamy mouthfeel, lots of mineral freshness, juicy acidity. Green apple with a bit of green grapefruit. Brilliant presence and great depth. Taut, mineral, juicy and quite complex.
A beautiful mountain Sauvignon Blanc.
Great Klimt’esque label, too!

Puiten Alto Adige - Südtirol Pinot Grigio 2021

Usually not a fan of PG unless it comes from a Grand Cru vineyard in Alsace… or from Südtirol.
Light pale in colour, very fresh on the nose, crisp & very clear. Like mountain air in the morning. Some light pear, white pepper, a touch of dried herbs, a whiff tangerine peel. But also some rocky mineral notes.
Beautifully balanced on the palate, clean & cool & very fresh. Crunchy pears again. This one has with nice rounded mouthfeel underlined by rocky, cool minerality.
Brilliant for sipping but also serious enough for proper food. Yum!

Riserva Rabaja' Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2019

Ambrosial bouquet with expressive notes of dried cherry, wild strawberry sauce, kirsch, mulberry, blueberry compote, violet, black tea, potpourri, black licorice, star anise, clove, vanilla, crushed stone, leather, and forest floor.

Highly structured, with broad shoulders, on the palate. It’s delicious now, even as a baby, with runway to age, soften, & gain additional dimension. 😍

From one of my favorite co-ops. I believe they are still the third largest co-op in Europe. Their tasting room sits on the top of the hill in the center of Barbaresco under & to the side of the church with an easy downhill short walk to Gaja.

2019 was a very good vintage in Piedmont.

The nose shows some light smokiness and lightly grilled meats. Dullish fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, poached strawberries, raspberries with notes of black raspberries. Sandstone, dark earth and dark withering flowers with red roses.

The palate is ripe, juicy and lush. Quite pleasant for a youthful Barbaresco. Blackberries, dark cherries, poached strawberries, black raspberries, raspberries & blueberry hues. Crushed sandstone & limestone, nice mid spice, dry tobacco, tough leatheriness, barrel shavings, soft presence mix of dry & fresh herbs, dry river stone, red cola, brilliant red florals, red & pink roses, excellent acidity with a nicely tensioned, structured, balanced, elegant finish that lasts minutes landing on wood & dry earth.

Another one to cellar 8-10 plus years.

We had a tasting there some years ago with Aldo Vacca (after climbing the tower) but couldn’t crack a tasting at Gaja just down the road.

@Bob McDonald Sofia & I visited in the fall of 2015. Now if you want to visit, even professionals, they require each person to make a $200 euro donation to their charity. A good cause but spendy for most.
