Purdy straw gold color. The nose feels like an old friend: Baked apple/pear pie, with co-elements of lychee and sterling mineral. This French white is easy and just a touch oily on the palate, with solid unripe acid balancing out the sweeter baked nose. Good bloom of flavors and mouthfeel with each sip, following the nose. Finish is delightfully mineral, developing into unripe green apple and a touch of pineapple. Not very long or sexy--the only weakness. Perfect for food though. And for $10, I'd drink this wine every friggin day. — 10 years ago

Comp with '04 La Perche '05 La Pucelle. Despite expectation came in behind other two. Light body and nose that took a while to open up. Medium finish with acidity. Good wine but falls in comp. Best the day after agon. Nose now in bloom and prominent. Taste also opened up. Outstanding long finish. Perhaps needs more time! Need to check opened bottle. — 9 years ago

This 34 was bit worrisome as level was mid-low shoulder and cork was tad crumbling. But the wine sang LATOUR out of the bottle like Genie out of the bottle and then he escaped rather quickly as the wine's bloom did not last. Domaine Jean Chartron established in 1859 owns 13 hectares of vineyards - 16 appellations - 9 of which being in Puligny-Montrachet. The soil is a mixture of clay siliceous sand and lime components. 40 years the average age of the vines. Hand harvesting, neither herbicides, nor chemical pesticides are used in the vineyards. Behind the alchemical balance of the wine aging (élevage) in the woods, at the source of the new oak barrels there's always Allier and Vosges.
Even though 2011 in Burgundy's one of the most premature vintage in 300 years, I must admit that this bottle of the monopole Clos de la Pucelle was astonishingly crisp, persisten texture, a solid core of broom in bloom blowing up in your mouth, a shiny flow of mineral essence. Yeah, that didn't suck. 2008 drinking really well. Beautiful and powerful in the mouth. Lots of soy and cranberry in the mouth. I thought it would be much more green given the vintage but it was ripe and round and not herbal in the least. It was a great bottle and in its seventh year it was in full bloom. — 10 years ago
