Tonight’s nightcap 🥃
During our stay at the hospital for the birth of our son some dear friends of ours brought my wife & I a care package. In it were all manner of goodies and treats, as well as a bottle of champagne and this scotch. They know us all too well 🤫🤷🏻♂️

Caramel, creme brûlée, charred orange peels, and Christmas spice cake on the nose. Mild notes of moss on the palate with a pronounced but welcome warmth on the way down. Smooth and perfectly suitable for ending the day with. — 7 years ago

Amazing blend that awakens every part of your tongue. — 8 years ago
Tried the '90 recently, spoke of how amazing a producer of Californian Cabernet it is, but just needed a little more time, this '85 is well & truly on point, everything is in balance, there's fruit intensity yes, but the development/complexity/layers are really shining through, outstanding stuff. — 9 years ago
From the opening of the bottle & the immense aroma hugging the cork I became overwhelmed with excitement.
The initial hints lingering on the nose were oak, chocolate, dark berries & plums.
Visually, the glass is filled with dark red, black centered tones that shine like a newly discovered jewel.
Additional scents of vanilla & earthy spices massage the senses. The first tingling sensations of liquid touch the lips, tongue, the fleshy contours of the mouth are overtaken with a dry fruity essence that quickly morphs into an earth laden outpouring of heavy tannins, dark, slightly bitter fruits and leathery substances of ancient lands.
This wine is a journey that proposes questions and forces you to analyze your experience & pushes your senses to evolve with each sip.

Black pepper aromas. Lots of acidity, mild tannins in the finish. Went nicely with pasta & meatballs. Could use a few more years of bottle age. — 12 years ago
Wow! One of the better 2011s I've tried. Very smooth and a great nose, yet can lay down for years to come. Well done Aaron! — 12 years ago
Very good, still a lot of tannins. Should be better I three to five years. — 8 months ago
Rich golden colour, nutty flavours as a result of ageing. Hint of fading tropical fruit on the nose with coconut on the palate. Honestly thought this would be well past its best but has surprised and delighted 19 years on! — 6 years ago
Very impressive Pinot. Signs of age dissipated after 20 minutes in glass. Softened beautifully and over delivered. Touch of whole cluster add nuance. — 7 years ago
Earthy mushroom and cherry-berry bouquet. Tasting: Mostly cherry--a splash of blackberry, black tea, with limestone and oak on the finish, the latter sweetened a bit by the fruit. Well balanced tannins. In general, I am not a fan of straight merlot--and this bottle has not changed my opinion, but Ridge knows how to make it elegant. — 9 years ago
Big, dark-fruited with some high tones of red and some white pepper, anise and meat to the point I thought it was cold climate Syrah at first. Over a day it warmed up, gave up some more candied notes. Layered, interesting, still quite firmly backboned. Give this some serious time. BTW no "smoke taint" to speak of — 9 years ago
Checking in...I still have heart burn from all of the acid. Nails. — 11 years ago
Lots going on here, all of it good1 — 12 years ago
This wine is of exceptional quality. While it may have been slightly premature to consume (released in 2021), it exhibited pronounced tannic characteristics. — 10 months ago
Wonderful Zin- enjoying the 2013 vintage- hint of tobacco - pairing with Salmon - Brisket- will definitely try again — 4 years ago
One of my favorites — 7 years ago
Another last of its kind wine as the San Mateo moved to Alesia label after this vintage. This young blend is really singing right now with bright red fruit and cedar spice and well balanced acidity. A candidate for short term aging, but the freshness of the fruit really shines now. — 7 years ago
Lemon zest and green apple. Lots of acid. Drank it over a couple days. Nice but would benefit from time. — 8 years ago
A #magnummonday find at Nopa, this showed an awesomely expressive nose of crunchy red and dark berries and fresh flowers but also tons of delicious savoriness--black pepper, cinnamon, and savory potpourri. The palate was fresh with lots of fine tannins and plenty of lift to bring it all together. With food an awesome cranberry jam note emerged. Southern Rhone blend roughly equal parts Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Counoise. — 11 years ago
100 years of solid viticultral artistry in head-trained vines. gorgeously upright and joyful. — 12 years ago

Day one too tight,
Day 2 with a 2-3 hour decant is just about right.
Saxum may not be Napa but they know what they are doing,
Best winery in Paso.

RP96 Incorporating more Petite Sirah than normal, and the first time there's been less than 50% Syrah, the 2013 Syrah Broken Stones is made from 48% Syrah, 22% Petite Sirah, 17% Grenache, 6% Mourvedre the rest Tempranillo and Roussanne. Its deep, inky color is followed by a structured, seriously mineral-laced and full-bodied red that offers lots of fruit (cassis, black cherries and raspberries), smoked earth and chocolate aromas and flavors. The tannin is front and center, yet they're beautifully ripe and polished. Give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy through 2028 — 8 months ago
