At 17 years this wine is still deep, vibrant ruby in color with powerful aromas of black cherry, black olive, earth, leather and forest floor. Showing youth as well as age it is full and meaty and yet still agile on the palate. Velvet tannins give it a rich texture but there is no heaviness here. Stunning wine with a very long finish. — 10 days ago
The nose shows candied orange peel, lemon peel, apricot, honey. The palate is showing a great acid drive, superb matter on the side, even a tiny thickness on the sides, some orange and orange peel notes, a big bright apricot note, some honey and then tannins in the rear that leave a gentle drying layer over a long orange peel, apricot, honeyed finish that goes on for ever. There is a tiny bitter note that blossoms in the very end. Complexity, texture, fruit, matter. This packs it all. The initial barnyardy notes blew off after a short while. This is again great stuff ! — 2 months ago
Medium ruby , slightly wider ruby, garnet rim . Slightly more closed and serious ,spiced cherries , menthol , liquorice and dried rosemary and thyme . On the palate this shows good red fruits , with raspberry , red cherry , spiced red plum , with dried herbs and a liquorice hint . Quite gritty tannins and fresh acidity , saline tinged finish of good length . This needs a little more time , better in 2-5 years and will show well a further 5 or so — 3 days ago
Popped in poured; no formal notes. The 2020 Pithos Rosso is, to my palate, a lovely Sicilian alternative to Beaujolais. Delicious, refreshingly fruity and just a touch wild. Sufficient structure to provide enjoyment for the near term, but I would just as well drink now. I really enjoy these wines. — 5 days ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2012 Villero pours a pale, slightly hazy garnet with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and initially a little grumpy with the fruit showing a touch stewed and everything a little muddled. However, with about 30min of air, it started to freshen up! This is a trait I find common with traditionally made Nebbiolo from Barolo and Barbaresco in solar years. Morello cherry, raspberry, bruised strawberry, dried roses, tar, dried green herbs, talcum powder, and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and grippy. There is so much nuance and yet, the quality is undeniable. Hard to stay away from. Drink now with patience to let it freshen up in the glass after opening but this should drink well through 2037. — a month ago

Clear and bright light ruby , thin garnet rim . Fresh and aromatic rose and light red cherry , touch of light dried herbs with an earthy hint . On the palate this has bright red fruits , pure and elegant, fruit driven with red cherry , spiced red plum , and an earthy , menthol hint . Fresh acidity but with a still relatively juicy mouthfeel. Slightly grippy tannins and just noticable alcohol . Good length and overall balance . Drink now and over the next 5 years or so . — 3 days ago
