Somewhat atypical for Sancerre with its ripe and relative opulence. Classy and balanced, delicious as hell. Riper citrus moving into stone fruit, sweet herbs, very mineral. I think vine age and neutral oak help bring out the textural richness here. Almost more inline with Bordeaux blanc in terms if style but still grounded in Sancerre wth the firm acid and mineral backbone. — 9 years ago

Yes, that is a full size wine bottle. The glasses were insane: Italian hand-blown 1950s lead crystal with >2 litre capacity. Had I not known their history I would have thought they were novelty glasses; you can fit most of your face in them...

The wine was good - very forward and atypical of Syrah. Dense purple; almost Beaujolais-like meaty, richly fruity nose full of plumbs and ripe blueberry compote; furnished with healthy acidity but relatively low on tannin. Not very long and won't get any better but a very pleasant early-drinking wine! — 10 years ago

Super delicious. Unusual in its red fruit, cranberry, pomegranate and bacon fat emerge on the nose with black pepper and olives. The palate has a slight salinity and a vinegar note that compliments the berries and meat on the palate. Nice purple flowers intertwined in it all. Fantastic and drinking perfectly NOW. I have never had such a delicious dry wine! Made in the Vouvray region of France, it is notable for being an atypical wine of the region. It was made because the the season was too cold. It is a dry wine, incredibly smooth, and a full, round taste in the mouth. Goes well with everything, in my opinion! — 13 years ago

I was immensely surprised when I had my first sip of this "Francophile's dream" of a Chardonnay. Gorgeous star bright golden color, and a pretty, soft nose - lilies, lemon zest, and honeysuckle. The pallet is fairly acidic, but balanced with candied lemon and pineapple fruits stealing the show, and light notes of marangue and a very crisp tart finish. I'd say that it had a very nice similarity to Mâcon-Village, with similar alcohol, and similar acid. It is by far one of the best values in the Chardonnay world, and atypical of Napa Valley in my opinion, which is refreshing. It'll need a couple more years before it's showing its true potential, but even in youth it is fantastic. Bravo, @Steve Matthiasson — 9 years ago

Noticeably raveneau but broad, fleshy and quite exotic. All the honeyed and floral notes you're used to from valmur but it lacks a bit of the minerality and cut you'd expect from one this young. Admirable given the vintage and a delicious, if atypical, wine. — 10 years ago
