Barolo Nebbiolo 2014

Great examplar of the old school Barolo…decanted 90 mins….seriously pungent/truly gorgeous nose, more refined on the palate but lots of fruit, still a bit wooden/tannic - not offensively so but could probably mellow another 5 years. But very drinkable now, perfect with a heavy roast. Nose is so fragrant I could go around sniffing this all day — 4 months ago

Bussia Barolo Nebbiolo 2011

A nose of roses, tobacco leafs, star anise, liquorice, some red fruit too and we find these expressive aromas and flavors on the well balanced palate as well, the tannins have a nice texture, some grip but with some silk also, and a very “Nebbiolo like” finish with a slight touch of dryness. Not the most complex and a wine to enjoy with a meal. 91 pts

91 pts.

Gran Bussia Barolo Nebbiolo 2000

This one had good bones but the slightest hint of vinegar on both the nose and palate - and the telltale orange rim in the glass. Drinkable but maybe just OTH and couldn’t measure up to the previous reds — 5 months ago

La Villa Barolo Nebbiolo 2009

I'll leave the detailed reviews to the professionals. I've had this in the seller for a few years. Finally opened, decanted, let it sit for about an hour. Fantastic tannins on the finish. Exactly what I like. Does not disappoint. — 7 months ago

Power and balance; A rare combination especially at age. This 2004 drinks wonderfully now. Still fruit (plum) and flower notes ( classic rose petals) there. But also cedar, bouillon and asphalt. Love it!! — 2 years ago

Vigna Colonnello Bricco Bussia Barolo Nebbiolo 1985

Lovely fully mature Barolo. The 85s are often on the decline, and this one may not be at peak, but wonderful balance, clear fruit, with a shorter finish than I recall from earlier bottles. 1 of 3 from a very nice dinner last night. — 4 years ago

Riserva Speciale Granbussia Barolo Nebbiolo 1970

At age 55 it’s a bit faded. A little tired. But has an elegance and a weightless quality to it. Fruit not vivid but very much alive. Well balanced. This Granbussia, according to the label, was from Bricco Colonello fruit. Lovely. — 5 months ago

Sor Aldo Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Sangiovese 2017

Vino Nobile de Montepulciano is a unique Sangiovese. We fell in love with it when we visited the region. Perhaps a bit of an acquired taste because it has a bit of a stringent dark, earthy, gravel, irony finish following vibrant dark red cherry… but it only takes a glas to get hooked. Paired surprisingly well with aged Gouda cheese proving its robust structure and present earthy umami flavors. The wine is aged in a medieval underground space below the winery with soaring high vaulted ceilings representing a cathedral highlighting wine as a spiritual experience. Also the name of winery goes back the twelve century as a recluse living in the caves, where the winery stands today, was able to read the weather from the behavior of a hedgehog, riccio in Italian. — 4 years ago
