Conundrum 25 Anniversary White Blend 2014

Golden straw color, dried apricot, honeysuckle, guava and a floral nose. Bit of a sweet caramel to start, opens up up to floral/fruit flavors. Interesting white blend. — 8 years ago

Côtes de Castillon Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Vintage 2010 - After 7 y a cardinal red colour, laurel, cherries, eucalyptus and leather, smoooooooth taste from 75% merlot 25% cabernet franc. I love this wine, a Point for winelovers that like fruity wines, way too young for the ones who like their wine mature (like me). Rather rustic. #côtesdecastillon #merlot #loveit — 9 years ago

Juvenile California Zinfandel 2013

SV
9.1

2013 Juvenile Zin. Blended from 15 vineyards, but nothing over 25 years old. Big, raspberry, currant, cinnamon aromas. Taste is more restrained with currant, blackfruit, and a mineral edge. Tastes cooler than its 15.4% self. — 10 years ago

25 Ans d'Age Bas Armagnac

What a delicious Bas-Armagnac. Rich with vanilla and caramel notes all in abundance. But what makes this such a delightful spirit is its intensity, smoothness and the finish that lasts several minutes. Twenty five years aged, and some, this Bas-Armagnac was a little treasure that I picked up at a store that was, sadly, closing. I'm glad I did. — 8 years ago

Château Meyney

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

Wow! Meyney managed to scrape together a really impressive wine in an overall pretty horrendous vintage. 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot. Pours a ruby-violet hue of medium (+) intensity. Great balance between elegance and power; lush and rich while still maintaining focus and relative brightness. Somewhat of a teeth stainer, but it still keeps from feeling jammy or over-extracted. Aromas of ripe cassis and raspberry, graphite, gravelly mineral earth character, fresh violet, a bit of toasty baking spice and vanilla, subtle espresso character, and a bit of fresh thyme herbaceousness. Palate shows quite similar to the character of the nose, with great purity of fruit. New oak is evident but already well-integrated and will continue to integrate further with a bit more cellar time. Medium (+) acid, Medium (+) body with a lovely supple texture and plush, fine, lingering tannins of medium (+) intensity. Great length and complexity. Delicious now, but would probably still have a lot to gain from 5-10 years in the cellar. Really tasty stuff. Either Delectable's listed price for this is really off, or I got an insane discount due to the vintage reputation; I paid under $30 retail for this, and especially at that price point it really overachieves, both in relation to vintage and overall QPR. — 9 years ago

Les Picasses Chinon Cabernet Franc 1979

Proof that one does NOT have to spend a lot of money to acquire wines that will age gracefully into a beautifully mature wine 36 years of age. The usual pepper note is there that tells you are with a Cabernet Franc from #chinon, but the real beauty unfurls with the elegant spices of tobacco leaf and old leather, notes of forest floor, subtle mint, dried red currant and cassis fruits. Simply beautiful and I will now go buy a case of 2010 and say goodbye to it in storage for at least ten years. $20-25 retail for the recent vintages. #1979 #smashingpumpkins #raffault — 10 years ago

Shafer Vineyards

Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay 2014

Tasted ‘13 & ‘14 together. Wine bears the vineyard named to honor the Red-shouldered Hawks and other birds of prey that play a vital role in sustainable farming practices. Bright yellow with aromas of tropical fruits and sweet floral scents. Aged for 14 months, 75% in new French oak and 25% in stainless. On the palate sweet melon, pineapple and peach flavors and citrus notes, subtle yet complex and well balanced. Lingering finish, savory, ending with mineral tones and toasty oak. Consistent. Outstanding! — 8 years ago

Poliziano

Vigna Asinone 25 Vendemmia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Sangiovese 2007

Not sure what the "experts" are talking about, because this vino nobile is off the hook. Incredible nose of camphor, menthol, and tart berries that emerged with more time in the glass, this is a textbook example of a vino nobile, which I have always viewed as a hypothetical hybrid between a chianti classico and a brunello di montalcino. A terrific wine that is just starting to emerge. Leave it for a couple of years, decant, and enjoy! — 10 years ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

One of the most elegant wines ive had. A gentle brute up feomt with pure elegance on the finish. Dark fruit nose with sweet tobacco and leather. Tastes of ripe raspberry black cherry, with rounded tannins that melt into a 12 swcond butterery finish with hints of vanilla. 25€ per taste, 650€ for bottle. — 13 years ago
