Deep Ruby, aromas of red and black fruits with pepper spice and oak, a classical blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo, barrel aged for 24 months. On the palate flavors of black cherry and currants with spice, espresso, vanilla & toasty oak tones. Soft full ripe tannins, lively acidity on a long finish ending with fruit, spice and an earthy mineral character. Nice!

5 year anniversary. Picked up the 2009 at the winery in 2017 on the honeymoon. Saving that for the 10th.
Wife found this and picked it up for me last year, fitting to open it tonight.
Tobacco. Smoke. Leather. Oak.

Rich nose with a dab of camphor, pipe tobacco led a phenomenal Rioja with sweet dark red fruit, dark chocolate, Asian spice and a hint of iodine I usually associate with Tuscany. Full-bodied and quite round the fine oak tannins could benefit from time and though this drank beautifully with decant it can go for many years. Impressive.

Dark, dark ruby coloration. On the nose, black cherry, blackberry, spice, smoke, but predominately jammy dark fruit until it starts to open up and becomes more Smokey and earthy with minerals. On the palate, full body, plum, currant, smoke, tobacco, oak and after 10 years tannins are still strong but not overpowering. Medium to long finish of the dark fruit and some smoke.

Återbesöker Imperial 12 en månad senare. Allt jämt en praktexempel på Rioja Gran Reserva. Kraftfull och följdsam.

Dec 12th, 2019Resan börjar nästa som amerikansk pinot med mörka mogna bär, kanel och vanilj. Men när får utvecklas i glaset är vi snart framme i klassisk Rioja. Toner av pomerans, basilika, viol och söt tobak blir mer dominanta. Medelfyllig med fräschör. Den här årgången har lite hetta i avslutet men i övrigt mycket fint ursprungstypisk exempel.
