From 375ml.
N: Chocolate covered morello cherries. Deep nose, sappy pine forest, damp. A hint of clove. Balsam.
P: That’s one fully engaging wine, Deep and bright, a world of browns. Really refreshing, and unctuous, woodlands, prunes, cinnamon. It goes on. — 3 years ago
See previous notes from November 2020. Herbaceous is the word together with plum and blackberry - some earthiness with a note of mushroom. In summary - Herbal, Mineral, Bay leaf. Not the complete package like it’s more illustrious Wilyabrup neighbours like Woodlands, Moss Wood, Vasse Felix, Cullen etc but also half the price so good QPR. Tasted again 60 weeks later on 6th September 2022 with similar results A good wine that drinks to its price point. Not quite the standard of its illustrious neighbours. Not as much maritime influence? — 4 years ago
To clarify the Delectable description this is actually Cabernet Franc dominant. This is Woodlands take on a Right Bank blend being 47% Cabernet Franc, 39% Merlot; 11% Malbec; 2% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. Aromas of Black Currant, vanilla Oak, some violet, Capsicum Mulberry and steeped black Tea. Medium bodied - black currant and medium minus black tea tannins. Medium intensity. An honest effort and reasonable QPR at about $40. Drink last one later this year. — 5 years ago
Deep Ruby in colour. Notes of mulberry, mint, herbs, olive and black currant which transmit through to the palate. Great match with Lamb Shanks, also excellent QPR for Woodlands’ 2nd ranked Cabernet Cuvée for $45. Dan Murphy’s In Double Bay Sydney selling this same wine in the aged section for $75 last Saturday. Tasted 20 weeks later on 19th March 2020 with similar notes. Very much ready to drink. Fine sandy tannins - very resolved. — 6 years ago

Beautiful colour- vibrant. Herbaceous aromas preside over the Cassis and oak - could pick this as Margaret River Cabernet. A strong wine in terms of likely longevity with a robust core. Elegance with power, cutting back on the ripe plush style of Cabernet often seen in the New World. I love Margaret River Cabernet and this is traditionally one of the best in the district. Every year Cape Mentelle have an International Cabernet Tasting and about 5 years ago they covered the 2009 vintage which was great in both Margaret River and also Bordeaux and other parts of the world. I went across to WA for it. My top 3 were this one, Woodlands and Chateau Palmer. Many years to go in the Cellar. — 7 years ago
Have not had in 5 years. Young as ever. Eternal. Smells like a 17 or 16. Super slate, Granny Smith apple flesh, woodlands, pine, apple skins, so lean and classic. The slate aromatic expression is wonderful. Awesome texture like icing on a cake and superb balance and freshness. What a finish. The unsung Prüm. Really compelling wine. Best showing ever. Such a huge core of fruit and mineral and the finish! This will last 25+ more year and this is my last bottle. What a great bottle. This is last of 4. I tasted this wine with Bert Selbach at the estate and was floored. Now the estate is sold and doesn’t exist anymore and Bert is retired. He was a great winemaker and if you ever find any of his stuff buy it. His Himmelreich and Domprobst stuff is top class and with age they transform . — 3 years ago

Had this at The Cru Wine Bar in the Woodlands as part of a flight. This was my favorite of the three. — 4 years ago
Fabulous vintage from this amazing small producer. The juice shows bright and lively in the glass. The nose relveals a very rich and sophisticated range of aromas, going from the fruit of the ripe red cherries to more herbal balsamic scents like rosemary, sage, thyme, laurel, marjolaine and to more mineral aromas. The energy runs in the mouth as well, taking you deeply into the essence of the Ligurian spirit: stone, seasalt, mediterannean woodlands, wind, sun, rain, seaspray. Nothing is yelled but a lot is told. A true watercolor of the terroir. — 5 years ago
Pale Lemon in colour. A little leaner than the lush Woodlands Chloe we had on the weekend from Margaret River. This was more citrus fruits and citric acid with judicious use of French Oak. More Chablis than Meursault. Technical Details: Grapes are all hand picked, whole bunch pressed, and fermented in French Oak Barriques of which one third were new. The wine spent 8 months in barrel with gentle stirring as required, then a further 2 months in tank on lees prior to bottling. Minimal malolactic fermentation. A good cellaring future well into the mid 2020s. — 6 years ago
2005 vintage, rescued from the cellar today. What a testament to the quality of Margaret River Cabernet. Divine, the fruit shines through the palate and the briny tannin structure is magnificent. Enjoyed every sip! — 6 years ago
Slightly heavy, but good — 3 years ago
2015 vintage. Big. Full. Needs time. Lots of time. If drinking now, give it at least a two hour decant pre-consumption. Medium bodied with plenty of grip. Plenty of cherries, oak, plum with a splash of woodlands air and an infinitesimal schwing of Hawaiian Punch. Maan, these La Granges generally need two decades to resolve/settle down/marry/divorce. — 3 years ago
2017 vintage. Salty, dark fruity nose. Light-medium, Pinot noir styled body. Bunches of dark cherry and woodlands. Super youthful and slightly, but pleasantly, tart on the finish. I’ve got a feeling a feeling deep inside oh yeah that this would improve over the next few hours. Not massive improvement but a little less tart and a bit softer on the finish. — 4 years ago

At the Woodlands Dinner at Walters Steak House in Brisbane last Wednesday hosted by one of the family owners, Andrew Watson. The premium cuvée each year is named after Family members or friends. 2014 was “Matthew “. Drinking a 5 year old Cabernet of this quality from Magnum is akin to infanticide but one can see the undoubted potential there. Cellar for up to 20 years. Definitely one of the icon Cabs of Margaret River. A lovely blend of Cassis and Herbaceous notes. Medium to full bodied with a finish that goes on forever. Outstanding. — 6 years ago

2015 vintage. Really well balanced at this point. Medium body. No sharp edges or outstanding, individual components screaming to be noticed. Pretty well blended and viable now and should stay as such for the next 7-10 years. Silkiness up top, rhubarb + caramelized cranberry mid-palate and recent storm woodlands on the finish. Consistent producer both white and red Burgs. 3.15.23. — 2 years ago
