Aromas of dark berry fruit, graphite and dusty earth. Flavors of blackberry, black cherry, ripe plums, kirsch, black licorice and iron. Full bodied, long finish and intensely structured. Particularly earthy and elegant, the 2006 Valdicava Brunello displays a dark primary fruit appearance, but in its nineteenth year, it has clearly evolved from a dense, fruit bomb into a more refined pour with gentle and teasing tertiary aromas and flavors.

It is soft, flavorful, medium bodied, still well structured with light tannins and brisk acidity, and reveals interesting and savory notes of baking spices, dried fruits, nuts and herbal underbrush. The finish is long and satisfying. Aficionados of well aged wines, this is for you!

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed with a simple meal of pasta all’arrabbiata and over the course of a few hours. The 2021 pours a deep ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of Morello cherry, orange bitters, exotic spices, black tea, black licorice, some dried green herbs and gravely earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and lithe in body. I’ve long been a fan of Fèlsina fan and their Chianti Classico and Riserva especially so. When it’s a great vintage like 2021? Back up the truck. These will drink well through 2031 with ease. I can’t wait to try the CCR! — 7 months ago

As it warmed up in the stemware, it began to better display a balanced structure with vibrant acidity and fine grained tannins. The finish is juicy and long.

On nose, its warm and ripe fruits there, oak, black cherries, some white pepper. On palate, wine is medium bodied, fruit is still fresh despite of some aging, tannic at the end, and elevated acidity. This still need some time, try it after 2026 if you can hold it. Cheers! — 6 months ago
