Tranche Cellars

Domaine Michel Lafarge

Vendanges Sélectionnées Meursault Chardonnay 2018

2024/8/13-14. This is in a rich style but without much oak influence; ripe lemon, citrus blossom, a bit of butter and stone. It reminds me of Merlin’s wines (though that impression might be heightened because I’m drinking through a tranche of the latter in parallel) — a year ago

Pape Estate Grown Columbia Valley Red Blend 2015

2018 $35 thru oregon club
Smell of Blueberry/boysenberry and slight pepper.

Dry finish. Velvet texture. Some tannins but not overbearing.

Had with ribeye & potatoes, excellent with fat.

I am pretty sure I paid around $30-$35 a bottle in its first tranche release. Seems Millesima USA is selling it today for $149 a bottle through the app. The reason to collect and age. It is drinking well beyond that price point twenty years from inception or how I always look at wine is eighteen years in bottle. For me, that’s how I decide when to open. How many years in the bottle is its real age.

It is dark cherry, cherry, blackberry, black raspberries, strawberries, raspberries with bright florals. Amazing smoothness, bright violets, excellent acidity and a well, evenly polished finish that pairs with fatty steaks for days. Stupidly perfect from a warm/ripe Bordeaux vintage.

Happy holidays. 🎅🧑‍🎄 ☃️ 🎄 🎁 ❄️

Chardonnay 2018

Wonderful Chardonnay, slight oak but just enough to enjoy. Peach, apricot, vanilla, but in a great way. WOULD BUY AGAIN (2018) — 3 years ago

Alain Hudelot-Noellat

Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2015

9.3

This has basically become my favorite Bourgogne Rouge. I can’t afford to buy the Burgundy that I really want to and love to drink, so I gotta get my fix in other ways and this wine never disappoints. It’s also aging quite well. I bought a tranche of the 15’s a number of years ago and they’re just gorgeous. Incredible pure expression of forest berries that have an almost alpine quality with lovely florals and aromatic herbs all enlivened by nervy acidity and a gorgeous silky texture. I love pretty much all the wines from Hudelot-Noellat. — 4 years ago

So true about the affordability for most of us. Quality regional and village is the only access for ordinary folk. Even some Bourgogne is now expensive! Rousseau etc Good work Alder

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2019

The first of my small tranche of 2019 Cuvée Reservée’s and I figured it would be fun to share with the Tasting Group. Popped and poured and presented double-blind. The wine pours a translucent, deep ruby with magenta rim, near opaque core, medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine was clean with macerated raspberry, cranberry, and pomegranate fruits. There were purple flowers, some black pepper and rocky minerality along with a slightly gamey note which was quite charming. Both the fruit and non-fruit characteristics were confirmed on the palate. The wine finishes dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. There’s a compelling sense of power and energy in this wine. Everyone was in the Rhône but most were in the North; from Saint Joseph to Cornas, citing that they believed this was Syrah. However, two in the group called Châteauneuf du Pape and one actually called producer (!!) but missed on vintage (2016). Universally, the wine was fawned over and the dude who called Pagaü thought he actually favored the 2019 over the 2016 he had a while back. While I’m not sure I would go that far, the 2019 is truly quite stunning already and seems to have the guts to see a very long and wonderful life ahead. These are currently enjoying their customary early drinking window however, that window will likely close within a year or so and then I could see this shutting down pretty hard until 2025 — 3 years ago
