Vigneti Massa

Monleale Colli Tortonesi Barbera 2015

Had this vintners Timarosso same night & both lived up to the hype. A decade of age has made this Barbera blend a deep, soulful expression which I had not yet experienced in such a blend. Game, ripe ripe cherries sing once a decent decant tames the initial shrillness & one note balsamic dimension. Special, for old school fans. — 2 months ago

Pio Cesare

Gavi Cortese 2023

Pale lemon color with aromas of fresh stone fruits, citrus and floral notes, aged in stainless with plenty of lees contact. On the palate flavors of pear, apple and lemon citrus with lively acidity and blossom notes. Medium finish ending with citrus and creamy mineral character. Drink now while it’s still fresh! — a month ago

Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso 2022

Some buzz around this producer so approached with some anticipation. Restrained white flowers & confectionery Turkish delights on nose; mouthfeel quite smooth & elegant, w a stronger Riesling & Chenin Blanc presence, more of those white flowers & some RS. I’ve aged some other producers Timorasso w excellent results so see no reason this can’t do same, but this is drinking well young too. — 2 months ago

Derthona Colli Tortonesi Timorasso

This wine gets better every year and still shows the vintage. It's still a lower tier 1 or upper tier 2 Timorasso, but it IS very accessible. — 2 months ago

La Scolca

Bianco Secco Cortese 2018

My first white bottle selection wasn’t available so I chose this instead. Not a bad consolation prize: apple, white peach, citrus nose, medium body, engaging acidity backed by minerality. Great accompaniment to the table’s seafood and chicken entrées. — 21 days ago

Fratelli Alessandria

Monvigliero Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Believe it or not, Fratelli Alessandria was the very first to commercially offer a single expression of Monvigliero (1978); three years before Comm. G.B. Burlotto. That being said, both have played a role in defining the style of this, most famous MGA in Verduno.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 2010 Monvigliero pours a bright garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of ripe and tart, mostly red and some dark fruit: wild forest strawberries, mixed brambles, Morello cherry, pomegranate, truffle, roses, dried green herbs, licorice, some tar, forest floor and dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and slightly savory. I think this is in a really lovely spot and anyone who has multiples should try one during this phase of its evolution. That being said, this has a long life ahead. Drink now with patience through 2050+
