Good, french style pinto from California. Well. Balanced fruits and tannins. Good for its money, less than $20 at Costco. — 6 years ago
2012 CIRQ Estate Treehouse Pinot Noir. Michael Browne’s (of Kosta Browne) personal project which as I understand is an homage to the Summers he spent at a ‘Circus Camp’ in his youth. Treehouse is an amazing hilltop (stunning elevation) property in west Sonoma County with red, iron-rich soil surrounded by (say what?) coastal cypress trees. I had the pleasure of visiting, hosted by Damon Wong, and it's an amazing Vineyard. Unlike anything else I've ever seen. I can understand Michael's fascination with it. The wine: On the nose, red fruits, cedarbox, with notes of rhubarb and fennel. On the palate, pomegranate, kirsch, black tea, spices, roasted herbs along with hints of black truffles and white pepper. Beautiful texture. Lengthy finish. Classic expression of Pinot Noir. If I had to distinguish it from Kosta Browne from a flavor-perspective, I would say higher acidity and a bit of tannin give it a quality more accustom to Grand Cru Burgundy which is not bad company. I'm a fan. Congrats to Michael as well as his partner in this project, my friend Kenny Rochford, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. — 8 years ago

Rochioli West Block might be my favorite. 2008 is also drinking very well right now. Bittersweet that this is our last meal at Scopa. It's been a delicious run. 😢😋 — 9 years ago
Vintage 2012 1.5L Drank at Christmas dinner 2016 with Kyle, Lynn, Andy and Megan — 9 years ago
Baking spices out the gate. Cinnamon. Sour cherry jam. Fresh rain soaked soil in the back. Maybe I should have decanted it but I’m getting a fair bit of heat. Granted after pregnancy and newfound mom life I’m very out of practice. Maybe some strawberry jam. On the palate we have a medium light body juicy, bright red fruit and spice at the end. Slightly sticky tannins. Nice way to celebrate the holidays. An affordable splurge to pair with a cheese board or a lean cut of beef like a fillet. Beef Wellington would be perfect. I festive pork roast would also go well. — 10 months ago
Brighter, fresher and purer than before. Forward, does not hold lot of reserve and does not fly but has some very tasty fruit without too much oak interference. Tasted at 59 degrees. — 6 years ago
Purchased at winery and stored in a controlled wine cellar. Most reviews here are a bit young, this wine is now hitting its stride but could also benefit from another 1-2 years. Some call this a California Grand Cru while some call it overrated. I love Burgundy and would say this drinks on par with mid to low tier Grand Crus in my opinion. Sweet and rich yes, but balanced with bright acid and structure. It has an impressive nose of rose, black cherry and vanilla but with an earthy herb quality that reminds me of great burgundy. More air reveals attractive grilled herbs and stem qualities. The palate is intense and rich with cherry and raspberry, powerful but silky verging on velvety texture and a long finish with a signature WS acid profile. There is a lot of oak but with this fruit and bottle age it is lovely....DRC uses even more oak so it’s not a sin with the right wine! — 6 years ago

Big, soft Pinot! As beautiful as a Pinot gets. Enjoyed at Portavino Houston. — 2 years ago
Mid to dense Ruby. Herbaceous aromas with graphite and black currant. A sweet fluid palate showing black currant of medium plus intensity and partly resolved Tannins. Oak has been absorbed. In a great spot at the moment - excellent balance. Drink remaining 4 bottles in next few years but it is essentially at its peak. A really good wine but from an Aussie point of view tasting more South East than West Australia. Had another bottle 25 weeks later on the 6th October 2020 with consistent notes. The main feature was that it was less herbaceous than it usually is for Margaret River. Showing more ripe berry fruit and cassis in this warmer year. More McLaren Vale in style. Still very good. — 6 years ago

Hard to say but probably my favorite wine of the last few days, I also love Syrah so I guess I am biased. Single vineyard, 75% whole cluster fermentation aged 17 months in 40% new French oak. Massive nose of black fruit, barbecue smoke, and herb. Continues on the palate with massive black fruit, cassis, herbaceous brambles, smoked meat, and smoke. Tremendous length which only highlighted the harmony and balance between the silky tannin and acidity. Great producer, like high end Northern Rhone, I am always amazed how great wine makers are able to tame and refine Syrah. From magnum, which has helped keep this alive. As well as its drinking you could tell this wine is edging towards past peak, so drink now if you got it. Opened at Charleston Wine and Company my favorite wine bar in town. Thanks Josh and Staff for the hospitality. — 8 years ago

Surprisingly decent for $12 at Costco; not as flavorful as typical Sonoma coast Pinot noir; good red fruit taste but maybe a little too much residual sugar — 10 months ago
