2015 vintage. Clear ruby, med bodied, silky mouthfeel. Red berry, plum, rose petal, tomato leaf, earth, iron. Low alc, Old World expression, complex wine. — 6 years ago
Lager is only slightly misleading here. Red-black with creamed coffee crown. That laces and effaces with ram horn arcs that ride the ring around blackest space. Kona coffee and medium-dark chocolate charms lead coconut and malt notes into vanilla bean and creme cookie with ginger snap ghosts. Lovely and smooth with coffee and milk chocolate creaminess that begs grain earthiness to align behind its toffee and vanilla in caramel and sweet tea and finally dark cacao firmness. #beer #dopplebock #bock #theduckrabbit #DuckRabbatorlager #abv #dankbeer #NCbeer #Blacklager #duckgoatrabbit — 7 years ago
Here's the story as presented, without any fact checking so I'm sure others will identify some mistakes... The winemaker was known as "the hermit of Lazio" as he went about making wines in his own way, built to age, and building up a vast library as he had little interest in selling his bottles. He made arrangements to sell his wine to a broker when his health was failing. The other act he took in the last months ahead of his death was to rip up all his vines because his daughter and heir married into a well known winemaking family that he didn't like and he couldn't face the prospect of them making his wine. This wine is a unicorn.
Earthy and slightly rustic, it retains red fruit qualities though rose, tar and tobacco dominate. It is an interesting wine with a fascinating story.
Found on the Maialino wine list, which is filled with gems from the reference points to the obscure.

So powerful. Thick aroma flavor with various leather, wet oak, matured black fruits. Concentration. Density. Fruitiness. Herb came out. More than 2 hours decanting, we can enjoy it even 11 years to good vintage. But more years in cellar would make it much smooth. Matched.with ram. 2010 @2850, wine plus - , 210712-211029 — 4 years ago
2014 - year of the horse
Double decant and pour. A medium dark ruby red color. Buckle up, your going to enjoy this ride. On the nose: sweet raspberry, forest floor, some vegi, slight menthol, with a little cinnamon. Taste: black cherry, gravel, minerals, currents, with a smokey graphite long finish. A rich, soft, savory mouthfeel (this is no cherry cola Russian River bomb).
West slope is a limited production wine from the middle portion of the west slope block in their Carneros vineyard...get some if you can and give it some time in the cellar.. — 5 years ago
Double decanted and drank. Dark red color. On the nose cherry, licorice, floral notes. Taste: Caneros cherry, raspberry, vanilla, little spice and medium finish. Nicely integrated semi big Calif pinot. — 6 years ago
Hands down, one of my new favorite sour session beers. Made in Brattleboro,VT. Hermit Thrush makes one mash and then uses that base (parti-gyle) for a few different beers, adding different ingredients or aging methods to get a few different finished brews. This is the base beer, the other versions are even cooler.
I'd love to be drinking this on a very hot, sunny day, alas it's mid-30°F here and rainy. It's very refreshing, light molasses in color, a touch over the sour threshold for many folks, perfect for me. 3.0% ABV — 6 years ago
At first, feel lots of tanning, isn't it 16 years vintage? But 30 minutes, started changing, one hour, quite good aroma with a bit sweet and a bit burned, with vintage taste meeting with ram. Mid body, so it has elegancy.@, X, 180427 — 7 years ago

Mellow funk. Beautiful golden color. Unforgettable. — 5 years ago
Dark red color. In the nose — strong cherry with floral spice and hint of licorice. Taste — burst of cherry fruit, with vanilla and chocolate notes and some spice with a medium finish. It should tear of the Ram not horse. Worth visiting Donum Vineyards for a tasting and seeing the awesome art sculptures! — 6 years ago
Really good Pinot. We drank it with nothing but a glass. No pairing needed. — 7 years ago
Mango, peach, passion fruit. It is just so tropical and has a clean finish. You’d guess it’d be funkier but it’s just lovely. — 7 years ago
Ram liked it. Available at Costco. — 7 years ago
