More delicate and filigree than Wombat. Traditional chablis profile - citrus, some mineral and spice from oak. Linear and focused with strong acid spine. — 5 years ago
Perfect with my steak & shrimp dinner! Not sweet at all (which is normally what I look for in wine).. I’m sure I’d be told to serve warm but wine for me must be cold. I’ll buy again for compliments to my meals. Could even see sipping it for a nightcap on cool nights. — 6 years ago
Very well balanced. Not too sweet. Don't usually care too much for Gwertz. This is my fave so far. — 8 years ago
Red berry with lots of tannin. This inexpensive label produces dependably good quality wine. — 9 years ago
I agree with both sides here. Big giant fruit bomb but a league ahead of the competitors (Justin and Daou) because it has nice acidity and a long complex finish. Justin’s isosceles by comparison is a raisiny, overripe flabby mess of a wine. Definitely some RS on this wine but I can’t complain because my palate is refreshed from the acidity and reassured by the complex finish. In short gets my vote. 👍 — 5 years ago
Prior notes from 125 weeks ago still apply although I didn’t find this full bodied like I said over 2 years ago. There was that stalkiness and more savoury than fruity. The Yarra Valley is so versatile and does all the great grape varieties well with the exception of Riesling which is not planted. — 5 years ago
Between Applejack and Sexton, this displays strawberries all day, with twists of mushroom funk, sandalwood spice, and red cherries. Good — 6 years ago
Nose of peppercorns savoury spices and minerals Medium weight with plummy minerality coming through on the palate. Hawkes Bay NZ Syrah has always been a favourite of mine starting with Te Mata's Bull Nose Syrah 10 years ago. This Salo is made by leading Aussie winemaker Steve Flamsteed of Giant Steps in the Yarra Valley Tasted again 36 weeks later. Lacked a little mid palate fruit when compared to the Mt Langhi Cliff Edge which was a similar cool climate peppery Shiraz. I preferred the Langhi. — 8 years ago
Almost 2 yrs ago I wrote: "Half way through a case and the romance deepens. Giant scorched earth and oiled leather nose. Epic battle of extracted dark-red fruit sweetness and a light juicy acidity. All in a smooth-as-silk package. Ageing so gracefully, 10+ years from peaking." After last night I'll add: probably peaked after 2 hr decant, no need to wait but this has the tannins and pure extracted fruit to take it at least 10 more years. — 9 years ago
A little on the sweet side overall a good tasting wine. — 10 years ago
V17. Pretty good... opaque color. Smokey nose. Substantial black cherry fruit. Black pepper, chocolate and earthy finish. Nicely balanced . — 5 years ago
This wine hits above its class! Fantastic pounder with fruit forward berries and vanilla. Well balanced and a great, light red blend. We’ll pickup a case cuz this will be fun to have on hand... — 5 years ago
Superb. Really nice - flavourful, juicy, fruity, smooth. Buy again soon — 6 years ago
Delicious fruity and unoaked — 7 years ago
Delicious and crisp wine, with slight berry note, but still quite dry and smooth. Great feature at total wine in VA — 8 years ago
A beautiful example of a Pinot. Fruity and fresh, yet still has depth — 9 years ago
