The Bone Yard

Venge Vineyards

Silencieux Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

2011 vintage, very good. Bold, with lots of dark fruit, tobacco, cinnamon, and licorice on the nose, adding some herbal notes after the first sip with a medium, very pleasant finish. Dry, but not bone dry. — 5 years ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Paired with a bone-in rib-eye & onion rings — 6 years ago

Heitz Cellar

Trailside Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1993

A Conn Creek neighbor for this particular vineyard.

Nose has cherry/plum liquor, dried citrus rind, charred oak, rain-soaked soil, spring green herbs, mocha-coffee and toasted graham cracker.

Palate has cedar-infused black currant, plum skin, earthy and dirty wet leather and mild tannins.

Paired with a wonderfully grilled t-bone tonight.

This bottle easily has several years to go, enjoyed in it's youth tonight for sure. Future bottles can be 2020-2023 without concern.

For me, this wine is reminiscent of many 90's vintages of Sterling (SVR) wines that we have enjoyed over the years, minty cigar box, just wonderful.

Cleto Chiarli

Sorbara Lambrusco del Fondatore

Pale red and very fruity yet bone dry. Stewed strawberries and a touch of rhubarb with a fresh red currant note. Very fine mousse with tiny, Persia bubbles. So juicy and refreshing!
Paired with a lasagna - it’s a match made in heaven!

Starck Brut Nature Champagne Blend 2006

Pale green-tinged lemon with crisp, mineral-laced nose with loads of lemon curd and pastry on the palate. It's showing its coming maturity with a hint of almond extract on the finish and a bit of hazelnut, the quality of well-aged chardonnay. It really shows its no-dosage character - bone dry, it begs for food. Oysters, anyone? — 6 years ago

Radice Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC Lambrusco

This one came home with me. As in, the whole case. I absolutely love this and think it might have to be my go-to summer beverage. Lovely bubbles, pure watermelon fruit, terrific mineral rich and bone dry. Love, love, love! — 7 years ago

Château d'Esclans

Whispering Angel Côtes de Provence Rosé Blend 2017

Absolutely delightful Provence Rose. Blend of Grenache, Rolle, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvedre grapes. Strikingly pale pink in color, the aromas are fresh and fruity. On the palate, it is bone dry through the finish. The name really suits the delicate nature of this wine. — 8 years ago

Venge Vineyards

Family Reserve Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Much more accessible and fruity than the '14 hunnicutt 935. The hunnicutt will improve over time but this is drinking well right now (but still will benefit with a few years) . the bone ash is more of your opulent cab compared to this. 96-97. — 8 years ago

Why is the Venge Sangiovese almost half the price of B Cellars Sangiovese? Just received email from the B, $65.00 or $48.00 for club

Oops,
I was comparing my auction price buys, their about the same price from wineries, $45.00 from Venge

@Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher venge's prices are always a little lower than the wineries he consults for. The b cellars sangio is more prototypical sangio whereas the venge is a bigger denser wine.

Quintessential Provençal Rosé. Strawberry and floral aromas. Very bright and crisp. Bone dry. Yum. — 9 years ago

Château Malescot St. Exupéry

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Color a is murky red brown. Nose—a sweet red cherry plum and forest floor barn yard funk with green veggie. A slight menthol lingering. Taste— Sweet strawberry tea flavors hit the pallet. A slight smoky and tobacco medium finish with touches of currant, tea and spices hanging around making the wine soft and pleasant and wanting more. Tannins have sweeten but definitely still there! — 6 years ago

Cuvée Frédéric Emile Alsace Riesling

Great pickup by @Steven Perlman during Alsace visit. All about ripping acidity and bone dry mineral and petrol notes with the citrus and orchard fruit now taking on a supporting role with some floral stuff in the mix. Impressive now and should gain complexity — 6 years ago

Valdespino

Inocente Macharnudo Vineyard Fino Palomino Fino

Man, you can certainly tell the pedigree of this house just on the nose here. Though I’m typically not a big fan of sherry, this fino smells delicious. Nutty, ethereal, and like unbaked cinnamon apples (for those who have made homemade apple pie, picture the smell once you’ve sliced the apples and rolled them in the cinnamon and sugar - this is exactly the nose here.) The palate is bone dry with more nuttiness and stony minerality. Cool wine.. wish I enjoyed fino Sherry more... — 7 years ago
