Domaine Weinbach
Cuvée Ste. Catherine Schlossberg Alsace Grand Cru Riesling

A couple of days ago I opened a standard Weinbach Schlossberg Grand Cru which was sadly over the hill which led me to open their standard bearing Saint Catherine from the same vintage and hope for the best. Fortunately this wine was brilliant even though it seems 2009 is not considered a good vintage by the winery. The wine is pale to mid Lemon in colour. Aromas of quince and honey. Carrying through to the full flavoured palate with diminished acid. Like sweet grapefruit juice giving a bittersweet flavour profile. It is rich and mineral reflecting the granitic soils of Schlossberg. Crafted from 5 plots of 60 plus year old vines. If this is considered an average vintage I would love to try a top vintage. Wonderful Riesling!

Incredible way to finish dinner... Bone dry with great structure, richness and ripping acidity to hold it all together...
