Château Serilhan

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Last night we opened the 2019 Château Sérilhan Saint-Estèphe Cru Bourgeois Supérior Médoc. Left Bank Bordeaux blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot by Doctor Alain Reynaud.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black raspberry, black currant, mint, licorice, pencil shavings, cedar and earth.

On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, green bell pepper, licorice, menthol, graphite and earth.

This is a beautiful medium to full bodied wine with a smooth succulent mouthfeel medium to medium+ acidity and medium + fine grained tannins that leaves you with a medium + to long dark fruit rich earth finish. Enjoy yourselves this weekend, have some fine wines with family and friends and please stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Amuse Bouche

Vin Perdu Napa Valley Red Blend 2018

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2018 Vin Perdu from Amuse Bouche is fabulous. Juicy and wonderfully expressive, the 2018 packs a serious punch while remaining very much medium in body, in the style of these wines. Succulent black cherry, plum, chocolate, lavender, spice and leather are front and center. The 2018 is a joyous, inviting red to drink over the next handful of years. Albe Barolo Nebbiolo 2016

Very succulent Nebbiolo with the tell tale crushed violets and leather notes. Beautiful and restrained fruit balanced with great acidity. This is top notch stuff that sells for a song. Probably the best Barolo bang for the buck I know. This very drinkable now but will take many years on the cellar and benefit from it. Grab what you can ! — 5 years ago

Domaine Dujac

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

This has a spectacularly expansive nose. Roses, dark cherry, floral stuff, some underbrush. Sweet, delicate, succulent and heady. Really brilliant on the nose. The palate is soft and resolved but vibrant. A touch feminine and super sexy with sweet edges. Very long and dazzling. Wow. — 6 years ago

Château Gruaud Larose

Sarget de Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

This is a second label from Gruaud LaRose (itself a second grand cru). Dark cherries, dark berries, blackcurrant, mixed with some herbiness and hints of eucalyptus/mint. Discernible earthiness, blended with medium tobacco and cigar box. It’s very smooth and well composed. The tannins are slightly harsh yet the finish drops off faster than I expected. This was paired with Fois gras, sea bass ravioli and medium rare rack of lamb. The fois gras accentuated the berry notes, while the succulent rack of lamb heightened the earthy tobacco notes. — 7 years ago

Château La Fleur-Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Delectable Wine
9.7

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus has an entrancing bouquet that demands your attention, delivering a mixture of red and black fruit, licorice, fresh fig and potpourri. The oak here is beautifully integrated. The palate is very harmonious, with ripe, succulent tannins that frame the concentrated black cherry and red plum fruit, and a dash of white pepper and sage, fanning out wonderfully toward the finish. It’s almost like a slightly toned-down version of the Hosanna. This exceeds my expectations. A brilliant Pomerol. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2022)

Cape Mentelle

Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc - Sémillon Blend 2018

Delectable Wine
9.1

Brilliant silver-straw. Lime zest, honeysuckle, succulent herbs and chalky minerals on the incisive nose. Dry, tightly focused and lithe on the palate, offering intense citrus and orchard fruit flavors that reveal a hint of waxiness and a refreshingly bitter quinine note. Shows a delicate touch and finishes clean, nervy and quite long, with resonating mineral character and a hint of lemon thyme. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, July 2021)

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Cranberry leather smell, residual sugars (and brown sugar) alcohol hibiscus smell, rich bloody purple color, tastes like woody candied aged blackberries and the balance is tremendous, great alcohol bite that comibines with aged succulent fruits and a heated final jaminess that ease and tingles through the finish. — 6 years ago

Château Pezat

Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Delectable Wine
8.9

The 2015 Pezat Red, Jonathan Maltus's entry-level red, is flat-out delicious. Sweet red cherry and plum fruit are front and center in this racy, open-knit wine. There is much to like, including the wine's very accessible price. I would prefer to drink this succulent Saint-Émilion over the next few years, while the fruit retains its youthful vibrancy. Giant Steps

Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Herbal notes wth ripe red fruits. The palate reflects that ripe profile with savoury red and black cherry. Medium bodied - succulent texture. The 2020 vintage won the Victorian leg of the Australian Pinot Challenge and 98 points from James Halliday. Giant Steps Applejack PN is a regular purchase for me. — 3 years ago

Hommage à Jacques Perrin Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2017

Delectable Wine
9.7

Glass-staining ruby. Dark berry preserves, cherry cola, Moroccan spices and licorice on the intensely perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Palate-staining, sharply focused black/blue fruit, spicecake and candied violet flavors show superb energy for their depth. Picks up mocha and succulent herb nuances with air. it finishes extremely long and smoky, with resonating floral and spice notes and mounting tannins. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, October 2021)

Château Yvonne

Saumur Chenin Blanc 2016

Nose is sort of a tropical fruit compote. Pungent but elegant.

Palate is delicious ripe fruit. Wow. Would not guess Loire. Almost hubackery. Juicy. So succulent. Sleek lovely sexy texture.

As this opens you get that cheniny ness.

Not sure if this vintage is at all representative.

Huge juiciness on the finish.

Bought from fass selections.

D'Oliveiras

Vintage Madeira Sercial 1977

Smashing! So harmonious and relatively pure/clean. VA adds the perfect lift, balanced components throughout. Keen acid, so youthful in its vibrancy and life. Almost Scotch-esqe with its peaty/earthy tones. It’s spiced, like walking through an exotic spice market. The length and finish incredible, wrapping everything up with roasted walnuts, honey, and succulent dried fruit. Drinks like a great aged Cognac or Armagnac. — 5 years ago

Albert Boxler

Grand Cru Brand Riesling

Had his as a Guwerztraminer tasting event at Beetle Cat in Atlanta, hosted by the Southeast Sommelier Society. Gorgeous floral nose of peach blossoms, white rose petals and lychee. On the palette, this wine was impeccably balanced with lemon tart acidity cutting though the evident residual sugar. Succulent notes of fresh apricot, lychee and lemon tart to a long and refined finish. — 7 years ago
