Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee, hosted by @Jeff Meyer , was so educational with fantastic German & Austrian wines. 1 sparkler, 5 whites, 5 reds, 1 dessert wine. All served blind as usual.
This is so fruit forward up front before it falls off a cliff and punches you with chalky tannins. Geez. It’s both floral and lean. Starts off with fresh squeezed black cherries, rhubarb tart and rose petal before drastically hitting you with high percentage dark cocoa, bitter root, and cracked black peppercorn. Tannic. I called this Blaufränkisch.
@Bill Bender : Saw your post from 4yrs ago about this wine. Agreed! — 6 years ago
Happy Cinco De Mayo 2019.....wwwaaahhh, a wine break.....Tom's PERFECT margarita:
1.5 oz. 100% agave Reposado Tequila
1.0 oz. Fresh squeezed lime juice
0.5 oz. Agave nectar
0.5 oz. Fresh squeezed orange juice.
Shake with ice, serve over ice (no frozen BS!) and do not forget to enjoy! — 6 years ago
Just a few bottles from an awesome Open That Bottle Night celebration this past weekend.
Another wine with a great future but is extremely young right now. If guessing blind, I don’t think I would have called this Howell Mtn...seemed more like Pritchard Hill. Fruit is very inky and juicy. Freshly squeezed blackberries and raspberries. Chalky on the palate. Some sweet tobacco up front on the palate but it turns pretty herbal towards the end. Give it time. — 6 years ago
My in-laws frequent Cabo often and claim that they’ve found some impressive wines from Mexico/Baja region. They enjoy fine wine, so I trusted their opinion and went hunting. This winery is supposedly one of the top wineries in Mexico, and I was able to find the last 3 bottles (at the time) in the US as the winery was sold out. We had dinner with them at my wife and I’s favorite spot in Fort Worth and I surprised them with this wine.
Pours dark and inky. Aromatically, this was a circus bash of red, blue and black fruit. There was also some black peppercorn and cedar. The front and mid-palate were dense...oak wasn’t dominant, just an absolute rush of fresh squeezed fruit. Finish was spice driven. Blind, I would have likely called this a zin/petite sirah blend (but structure kept this from being an overblown, hot, flabby Napa style zin). Very unique and enjoyable. Bravo Mexico/Baja! — 7 years ago
I felt a bit guilty to make mimosa wit this. It ended up with the very best mimosa I've ever had. It just melted down inside the freshly squeezed orange juice. — 9 years ago
Holy cow! The lower ratings of this wine must be referring to a different wine. This is a voluptuous, heady, powerful petit verdot, huge even. Wet concrete, pencil shavings and blackberries on the nose. Ripe blackberry, huckleberry, and blueberry gush across the palette, and immediately get squeezed by firm tannins, peppery and cured meat notes. This is an amazing wine that could easily go 3-6 more years (or longer). Yum!! — 5 years ago
Alongside the ‘08 I opened, this had tons of candied red and black fruit! Raspberry gummies, baked blackberry pie, and rhubarb tart. Killer aromatics. Perfumed. Mainly fruit dominated on the palate...fresh squeezed blackberries, ripe plum, currant and a touch of cedar. Will age! Thanks, @Mark Flesher . — 6 years ago
Monthly WTF wine group meet up.
Potpourri, fresh squeezed blackberries, currant, and candied teriyaki. Plush on the palate, with more acidity than ‘14. Structure here seems more beefed up. I waited an hour or so to try, and it was very soft. Full fruit spectrum (red, blue and black). Muddled mulberry with a flavor punch finish. Thanks for opening @Weston Eidson . — 6 years ago
Like fresh squeezed raspberrys — 9 years ago
A few months since our last bottle, notes are still consistent:
95% Sauvignon Blanc & 5% Semillon; Entre-Deux-Mers AOC
Nose of freshly washed sweet, green grapes, lemon grass and green melon.
Palate is crisp, citrus biased, lightly tart not sweet, lime squeezed on granite, medium finish.
$13, QPR is just a crazy value play! — 6 years ago
Very fresh tasting. First sips have a fresh squeezed feel. Very smooth. Gets better as it sits. — 6 years ago
Declassified Puligny-Montrachet fruit from vineyards just east of 'Derrière la Velle' & 'Les Reuchaux', this is the far east edge of the village.
The nose has lemon squeezed over flint & slate and light white flowers.
The palate has medium acid, under-ripe tropical fruits and light steely mineral notes.
Albeit coming from a strong vintage, this is a little closed up right now, perhaps a few more years rest is due. — 6 years ago
WNH event number 4. Perfect Pizza Pairing bottles. Not a bad bottle in the bunch!
Another bottle in the running for WOTW (weekend) so far. Blueberries, graham cracker and fresh squeezed blackberries in the nose. Rich and full bodied on the palate with silky structure. Milk chocolate covered dates, and baked mixed berry pie. Hedonistic and wonderful. Killer bottle @Eric LaMasters ! — 6 years ago
Perfect alone or as mimosa that deserves fresh squeezed juices. Crisp, tangy with balance and touch of peach sweetness. — 8 years ago
Lemon juice squeezed fresh into wine. — 9 years ago

fresh squeezed grapefruit on the nose and palate upon opening. tightly wound out of the bottle but opened up after an hour in a decanter. time reveals a kiss of cherry and an underlying salinity mixed with a trace of iron. light to medium body and color. not a cocktail wine, but EXCELLENT with food. paired perfectly with black pepper chicken. definitely a go to for weeknight meal pairings. — 5 years ago
