Sovereign Virtue

Domaine Maillard Père & Fils

Aloxe-Corton Pinot Noir 2002

Patience is a virtue when drinking this wine, as it takes longer than expected to open up. But once it did, wonderfully elegant. Extremely floral and herbaceous nose. Elegant and easy. Spicy at the end. Close your eyes and take your time with the finish, it's worth it. — 8 years ago

I absolutely #loved this one. It helps when your father taught you that patience is a virtue (aka, decanting is everything.) @Tanya Hayre it's ready for you! ❤️🍁🍂 — 9 years ago

Sine Qua Non

Sublime Isolation White Rhone Blend 2003

Citrus blossom and honeysuckle nose. Honeyed pineapple, tropical fruits and buttered toast on the palate. Rich, opulent and full bodied. Stunning texture, and I'm all about texture in these SQN white blends. Simple mouth-coating greatness. Endless finish. It might be heresy, but I love these SQN whites as much, if not more, than Manfred's reds. Patience is a virtue. They just keep getting better with time. Sadly, my last. Any sellers out there? — 9 years ago

Fattoria del Cerro

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Sangiovese 2011

This wine is highly sensitive to temperature and opening times. Don't judge it unless you are near 66 degrees and open after an hour. Once there, you can expect explosive tannins with dark cherries, herbs, and cedar undertones that you can't stop drinking. Superb! So sensitive is the temperature that 10 degrees cooler made it taste like dilute watered wine; I wanted to toss it. Patience is a virtue and is well rewarded for those who can get temperature and opening time right. — 9 years ago

No. 12 Pinot Noir 2014

Light bodied Napa Pinot Noir with whispers of cherry, strawberry, blueberry all corsaged up on my tux just like Senior Prom. Veneers of smoke & tabbaci crown this puppy off. This is one easy drinking sovereign! — 10 years ago

Chablis Chardonnay 2012

Chablis at 3! What better move on a Sunday? Happy to kick off this new tradition with Tribut who nominated himself by virtue of being cold enough. Great showing here so far. Flinty and pleasantly reductive, appetizing and dazzling. — 9 years ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

9.2

Captivating aromatic bouquet after time spent decanting. This is a by the book Brunello, featuring dried cherry, black cherry, blackberry, loads of cinnamon, vanilla, bitter chocolate, & tar. All are seamless, deep, & savory. Spice & fruit comes first, & last remarkably long. Opened young, of course, but patience isn't a virtue of mine. || Decanted 5 hours. — 9 years ago
