Pomegranate opener, then alarm bells, then capiscum, soil, and a sledgehammer finish - cascade of velvet. — 6 years ago
Citrus flower on the. Jose. Intense citrus. Such great acidic balance. Wonderful. So clean and fresh. Not a sledgehammer auslese Great because of the balance but not obvious weight. Bought from fass selections ... epic intense juicy tartness as it opens. Wow. ... a week in still great. Stone fruits. Acidity. Wow. — 7 years ago
To my taste, the best year-in, year-out red of French Catalonia. The confit red fruits, pie spice, bramble and wood smoke on the nose make you think it’s going to be a sledgehammer...and then it’s all elegance, filigree and lift on the palate, as it’s only 12.5% alcohol. Simple, non-interventionist vinification, but none of that natural bullshit. Everything in perfect order. #rocdesanges #roussillon #grenache #syrah #carignane — 7 years ago
Feels good, taste decadent. — 8 years ago
Sledgehammer. Can't help but admire this for its boldness at almost 10. All the things, but I kinda wish there was a little more space in-between to appreciate each element more. Maybe just too young, but I wonder if it doesn't just get more muddy from here. Really enjoyable, but perplexing to try to figure out what the future holds. — 9 years ago
Small producer making some excellent wines. Only $58 so quite on the low side these days for village puligny.
Very good on pop and pour.
Nose is gorgeous. Seashells. Some flowers. Very mineral. Intensely aromatic.
Palate has good richness. Very good. Mineral spine. On the dense side but by no means a sledgehammer. Really delicious. Sweet fruit. Very good amplitude. Almost a hint of peach.
Long lovely nicely fruited finish.
Bought from fass selections.

Wow. Can’t decide if this is plain dark or totally evil. Nose is dense blackberry and licorice flower. Almost sagrantinoey But it has a lovely sweetness. Palate is dark fruits. A bit of licorice. Mineral. Almost a hint of spicy mineral with a pleasant balancing hint of bitterness. The wine is on the sledgehammer side a bit so you have to be prepared for that. There is some brightness but it’s more In the background. As it opens some lovely licorice flower on the finish. Slightly pleasantly grippy texture. Not typical bojo gamay. But this has a place in a cellar. It’s a great example of what it is. Perhaps the only example of what it is. — 7 years ago
3 hour Audoze followed by a 2 hour decant and poured back in the bottle for dinner. This was extraordinary! Every bit as impressive as the ‘01 and ‘02. Robust blackberries, graphite, a smooth yet substantial mouthfeel and a sensational lingering finish. I recall reading a review of the Shafer HSS that descried the wine as “an elegant sledgehammer”....a perfectly succinct and apt description — 7 years ago

05 is my favorite, typical decant for me is 4 hours, drink over the next two hours and it just keeps getting better, still have a couple mags of 05 & 2 .750’s
Sledgehammer Merlot from @Joe Lucca and my first exposure to this maker. Loved it. Big fruit, racy, deep blue and black fruit. — 8 years ago

Opened this a few nights ago and it was little more than a sledgehammer of acid straight to your face. Poured some to pair with some artichokes after two days in the fridge and it has totally changed- fantastic! Beautiful clear, pale straw color. Nose sees vibrant apricots, white peaches, sweet sugar and honey. Palette now is balanced with healthy acid, but countered with tasty minerality, a bit of fruit and honey. Amazing what a couple of days in the fridge can do! Be sure to give this some time as it can develop into an amazing value wine. — 9 years ago
A whiff of sulphur on the nose but nothing that decanting could not fix.
Citrus and pineapple hit your nose with a sledgehammer. In the mouth I was surprised by the amount of fat, something I have not experienced with other Keller GG's. The decanter played the role of a fitness trainer as it slowly started reducing some of the fat. I hope that time will slim this down. — 10 years ago
Nose is tropical flowers. A hint of honey. An hour in more dense. The most elegant honey. Not unctuous at all.
Palate is quite mineral. Fresh . Not unctuous more precise. Like really mineral water flavored with tropical essence. Not obnoxious. Very very elegant.
The great thing about this is that it has very elegant richness and integrated minerality. It’s not a sledgehammer. No obvious wood after 15 minutes.
Succulent.
Needs an hour for density to present itself. Then it’s amazing.

Oh god. Maybe my red wine of the year. Nose is cherry flower plum skin and lilacs. Simply fantastic. Palate is grand cru burgundy made from Nebbiolo. Terrific density. Perfect balance. Juicy cherry finish. Simple awesome. Bought from Fass selections. ... really expansive on the palate as it opens. But in a classy way not a sledgehammer way... this is so fresh and juicy I can’t believe it’s 12 years old. ... ok at 90 minutes this is god juice. Basically extra dimensional cherry licorice juice. Cherry flavored crack cocaine on the finish. — 8 years ago

I'm conflicted here. I mean, this is the Platonic Grüner dialed up to 11. All the white pepper, pea shoot, stone fruit and phenolic bitterness you could want. Amazing richness, depth and complexity. But man, it was almost work to enjoy it after my initial taste. Maybe in time this mellows and loosens up, maybe it always stays a 20lb sledgehammer. Lord knows it's got the material to go either way. — 9 years ago
An amazingly peaty experience. Strong barley nose but the first sip just hits you like a sledgehammer due to the enormous amount of peat. The best octomore I've tried so far. — 10 years ago

This new offering from Turley is a total sledgehammer. Full bodied with ripe, boozy raspberry and spice flavors giving way to a plummy finish. Tremendous — 3 years ago
