Bates Ranch Vineyard Rosé of Grenache 2019

One of the best dry rosé wines being made outside of France! Delicate yet focused and pure. Looking forward to following the project for years to come!

@"Odedi" not on TheSkipScale®️which is based on the premise that a wine at 89 points is practically unmarketable. My scale and yours are wildly different. 8.8=undrinkable. 8.9=passable but completely forgettable. 9.0=good. 9.1=very good 9.2=excellent. That way when I go back and look at my stuff, I know what I was thinking 🙃

Elk Cove Vineyards

Roosevelt Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Fruit takes a back seat in the 2012 Elk Cove Roosevelt Vineyard Pinot Noir. This is a portrait in savoriness. Aromas of Spanish roof tile, sun dried tomato, cigar box and sage seamlessly merge into tart cranberries and dried cherry notes. Firm, dusty tannins hem in high-toned red fruit and taught acidity that terminates with a flourish of dried herb and bay leaf. This is the sort of Oregon Pinot Noir that will reward patience. I've love to revisit it in a decade or so. Sample — 8 years ago

Amazing. Extraordinary balance and cleverly applied oak. Very aromatic and fantastic finish. Elegant but this one has a short hem. — 9 years ago

Somontano Cabernet Sauvignon Rosado 2013

Molt recomanable.

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

I’m a HUGE fan here. This wine impressed me every time. I’ve had the 2000 and 2012, and now the 2015. I opened the 15 by mistake, but it delivered. I let it sit in decanter for an hour, and POW a ripe Smokey hem. Coffee and blackberries on the pallet. Nice tannic structure with some good acidity. You can easily see how this can evoke for decades. — 5 years ago

This is a lovely Bordeaux. The quality at the price point is amazing. Big Smokey burnt goat hair nose. Coffee and black raspberries on the pallet, with a nice tannic structure to hold it all together. Good acidity will lens to a long cellaring. Enjoy

Château Lamothe

Sauternes Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc 1971

Good sauternes from a great vintage. Golden with a slight watery hem, though with ample legs; well-defined nose of apricots, orange marmalade, and honey (with a hint of plantains?); a little low on acid but still enough to bin it all together. Decent weight and length. A very good Stilton and pâté wine! — 8 years ago

Gloria Ferrer

Royal Cuvée Vintage Reserve Sparkling Blend 2001

Another lovely and lively California sparkler from a vertical tasting of Gloria Ferrer's Royal Cuvée Bruts. The 2001 is as charming as the other vintages I've tried, though it shows an evolution in the house's style—a trend toward a lighter, slightly softer, fruitier bubbly. It's delicate and focused, like Chantilly lace, inlaid with traces of mineral veins that hem in notes of anise, blackberry and brioche held aloft by a fine, frothy mousse. 12.9% | ABV Sample — 9 years ago

I love this wine. Nose of fresh spring mint, hay, flowers, mineral, seltzer, smells like the alps. Palate is succulent and sappy with terrific energy and texture. So juicy. Reminds me of the El Hem a bit today. Dense and structured and really is always the best Jacquere I encounter every year. — 5 years ago

Les Fougerais Savennières Chenin Blanc 2015

9.8

Grand cru white burgundy nose of Chenin. Heaven. Literally heaven. Flowers. Air. Minerals galore. Citrus oil. Like a rock quarry. The fruit in this candy lemon lime slices with sugar on hem. Like a drop of lemon and lime. So vivid. So deep and airy like an ocean mist of Chenin. Insane. Palate is balanced like nothing I’ve had in Savennieres. Massive and concentrated with piercing minerality. Stunning purity. Just insane. It’s so clean and so racy and so precise it seems cut like a diamond. Amazing length. What clarity. What a wine. This is a thrill now but demands and needs age. Stunning. Tangy citrus shows up what seems Ike minutes after it’s done. — 6 years ago

Drappier

Grande Sendrée Brut Champagne 2006

The Drappier Brut Grande Sendrée is a refined blend of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay. The house prides itself on minimal use of sulfur and low dosage—the 2006 is voluptuous with layers of dust, walnut shells, and mahogany wood that serve to hem in fleshy, ripe orchard fruits and citrus notes. On the palate, the mousse is super fine, merging with bright acidity and wet dough on the back palate. This is a Champagne that I would like to revisit in a decade or more, certainly I am keen to watch its development. — 8 years ago

Kir-Yianni Estate

Ramnista Naoussa Xinomavro 2009

The Kir-Yianni Ramnista 2009 is 100% Xinomavro, an indigenous variety that is lauded as the noblest red in Greece, the root "Xino" means sour and "mavro" translated, means black. Does it live up to its name? The nose is a gathering storm of black olive tapenade and black currant aromas, leather, violets, smoke and coriander seed. On the palate, brash, slightly astringent mid-palate tannins hem in juicy Italian plums, iron ore, wild game, and yes markedly high acid. Needs time. 14.0% ABV — 9 years ago
