Riper, fatter and seems more evolved than the more linear and precise 1988, but like that other bottle, dry Alsatian Grand Cru Riesling with great complexity and length, floral, mineral, white stonefruits, different but equally lovely, last bottle, also purchased on release, these are amazing wines!! — 6 days ago

@Shay A, one thing I really appreciated was that both Z-H wines had been made DRY — I recall a period (late 1990s/early 2000s) where a lot of Alsatian producers were being criticized by consumers who didn’t know whether the wines were dry, semi-sweet, sweeter, etc., which IIRC led to many Alsatian producers using that 1-5 (??) “scale” on the bottle to indicate sweetness levels. These two bottles were obviously made dry, which I appreciated!!

Beautifully aromatic with exotic spice, peaches, a touch of of Freire ha & herbs.
Amazing purity on the palate with energy & precision. Rich yet bone dry. With minerality & salinity. The length is just insane. The depth even beats that. Shy apricot & peach in the background but it’s really not about the fruit. The terroir here - wow!

Gewurztraminer on steroids - rich, ripe and elegant with a pronounced bouquet of lychee, honey, candies lemon, rose petal, ginger and smoke. This verges on medium sweet with 33g/l RS and is full bodied with 14.5%abv. Powerful with enough stony minerality to stay clean rather than cloying on the exceedingly long finish. A powerhouse and despite the medium gold rather advanced color it has many years of life ahead — 6 years ago
