Balanced and earthy. Not overly fruity. Would get again. — 5 years ago
86ed bottle from a restaurant cellar at a great price. Paired with rack is lamb and hanger steak with agrodolce sauce. — 6 years ago
Bold, succulent dark red red. Love it! — 7 years ago
Consumed with our meal featuring rack of lamb, this immediately struck me as a somewhat modern Barolo with the oak playing a slightly more predominate role than a lot of the Barolo I’m used to drinking. It was fairly austere on this night so judging it was a bit of a challenge. But there were red and dark fruits, slightly more on the ripe side of things; new leather; tobacco; a hint of herbs and anise. A nice wine to be honest but it was outclassed by the Brovia that was opened after. — 8 years ago
Superb, deep, robust, and peppery Zin. Great with rack of lamb and filet mignon. Had this before and it always pleases. — 8 years ago
I'm sure I've rated the before, because I have a bunch of the 2009's at home in wine rack. Tasting again at the Bonney Doon tasting room in Nov 2017 it seems to be fading just a wee bit. Still lovely, but drink it soon! — 9 years ago
Merry Christmas Eve! Have had a few bottles of this but this is probably the best - last one was maybe 18 months ago. Decanted an hour. Aromatics leap from the glass from the first pour. So integrated and seamless with wonderful deep fruit. Love that this is <13% abv - the refinement really comes through. Long finish and a perfect pairing with a Parmesan crusted rack of lamb on Christmas Eve 2021. — 4 years ago
Still quite nice with rack of lamb ($17) — 6 years ago
Acidic when chilled, opens up and gets funkier and more complex as it warms — 7 years ago
Really good! Smooth and rich. hint of smoke ripe berries vanilla and brown sugar. — 7 years ago
Fourth vintage of Matt’s Cab Sauv that I’ve had the privilege of trying. This was didn’t seem quite as ready to drink as the others. Not bad by any means just not as open. Limited berry on the nose and still strong tannins. I think some time on the rack and this will be great. — 8 years ago
Had this with curry rack of lamb and really enjoyed. — 9 years ago
Syrah blend, nice accompaniment to roasted rack of lamb ($19) which we usually pair with a cab blend or Pinot noir — 5 years ago
Loved this wine! Smooth, velvety, slightly peppery. — 6 years ago
2005 Woodward Canyon Special Selection
Wow, what a wine. A wine they make twice a decade in the most special vintages. A blend of cab, petit verdot and merlot that sees 200% new american oak. This means they put the wine in a new oak barrel and leave it for a year or so and than they rack it into a second new oak barrel for another year or so. It is a huge and decadent wine. It makes no apologies. Will you find unique terroir and sense of place? Hell no. But you will be giving your taste buds an amazing treat. Like firing a fully automatic 50 caliber machine gun. Its downright wrong to like it but it is still super fun and something you will never forget. Yes, that is how much I like this wine.
13 years old and not a dip in sight. Just entering its optimum drinking window now. I will drink this over the next 7 years and I will love every sip. — 7 years ago
My first bottle of eight. It’s early but with seven more bottles, I took advantage of my curiosity. A stunning vintage and perhaps their best Alter Ego. Beautiful nose of fresh floral mid and dark red fruits with excellent silky mouthfeel. Two hour decant. I would wait another five years to check on my next bottle. Hedy’s 4th and main course, Lamb - Rack, Shank, Lavender, Cumin, Coriander and a tiny bit of Mint w/ Honey, Butter Beans, Baby Vegetable. Excellent preparation. The 09 Alter Ego did it justice. @PlateAndBottle — 8 years ago

Fantastic Pinot! Paired perfectly with rack of lamb, fresh veggies, and Moroccan spices. Will definitely look to acquire more : ) — 9 years ago

The nose offers black fruit - plums, currant, blackberries - and a savory spice and herb rack featuring pepper, anise, cinnamon, clove and sage. On the palate, there’s plenty of dark fruit and more savory touches. The tannins are firm and the acidity is refreshing, while the finish lasts a good long while. — 4 years ago
