It’s time for #MerlotThursday. Here is a delicious one from Napa Valley.
Dark inky in color with a short purple rim.
Strong nose of blackberries, black plums, figs, dried fruits, cooked raisins, vanilla, cedar, licorice, cloves, light vegetables, cola, earth, chocolates, tobacco, mocha and black pepper.
Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, vanilla, cedar, earth, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha and coke.
Long finish with firm tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a delicious Merlot from Napa Valley. Big bold and beautiful.
Showing a great mouthfeel with nice complexity, once it's opened up. Intense, rich and extracted. Teeth staining color. I've had it many times and it is very consistent.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up and shows some tannins. So give it time.
I've had this vintage 6 months ago and it is showing nicer now.
Good by itself or with food. A great sipping wine.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
93 points.

Totally shocked by this wine. It was good when we first tried it back in 2008, I think. Was half-expecting this to be okay initially then die quickly, but it is impressive. Great nose of dried currants mixed with leather - classic older cab - with some cool spice notes on the edge. Extremely balanced on the palate, great flavors and expansion, with a smooth, lingering finish. I have not been that impressed with the more recent vintages from Peju, but their older cabs are rockin’ it. — 7 years ago

Peru from Napa. Only took 10 months to open it. ❤️ — 5 years ago
Wow: 16 years and drinking incredibly well. Classic older cab aromas - dried currants, leather notes - coupled with terrific balance. I can't believe how together this wine is after all this time. Just outstanding. This will probably last a few more years, but I really can't imagine this improving. Drink up and enjoy! — 8 years ago
2011 - luscious bouquet; great body and legs, smooth long finish; a very nice "next level" Peju Cab definitely worth revisiting. — 8 years ago
Sipping Fine Wine
This estate owes its name to Connetable Talbot, the English general & governor of the province of Guyenne who was defeated at the famous Battle of Castillon in 1453. Aromas of sweet black fruits with floral and earthy notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry & blueberry with cacao and tobacco spice, on a well balanced frame. Fine rustic tannins, long savory ending with fruit, spice and cedar character. — 3 years ago
