Dark garnet with a jammy nose of dark plum and some oak and/or some light leather. Smooth in the mouth with medium tannins & acidity. Also a hint of fruit forwardness or more red fruit like plum and red berry. A very nice blend! Again thanks James- — 4 years ago

Magnum 2009 La Mission Haut-Brion. Very lean and structured. More austere than the 2015 Ornellaia white. — 6 years ago
Color : Red
Wine estate : Ornellaia
Designation : Bolgheri
Name : Bolgheri Superiore
Country : Italy
Vivino : 4/5
Note : Superb estate that offers a wine of high class. A coppery robe with a sweet nose of tobacco, hazelnuts and chocolates. In the mouth, a very good length with a large amplitude. A final on the leather and woody.

Superbe domaine qui nous propose un vin de grande classe. Une robe cuivrée avec un nez doux de tabac, noisettes et chocolats. En bouche, une longueur très bonne avec une grande amplitude. Un final sur le cuir et boisé.

When in Portofino - drink like a worldly Italian!! This wine was a surprise find on my way to buy an ornellaia or chiappini - my two favorite Bolgheri wines with muscle AND finesse in the glass. This wine is from a cooler region in Italy however the Cabernet and Merlot could not have been shown better. There is pepper on the palette but otherwise the perfect balance and structure of these Bordeaux varietals. There is leather on the front end, and the acidity and lower alcohol made this wine a great addition to our meal. A guaranteed winner of any blind tasting!! — 9 years ago
An amazing wine with incredible complexity. Black currants, black plums, dark chocolate, earth, sawdust, cigar smoke, etc. It just keeps going on and on! Better than the 2001 Ornellaia I had earlier. It can be enjoyed for many years to come. — 3 years ago
This was the mystery bottle in our Super Tuscan tasting event. It was up against the 2016 Masseto, Ornellaia, Sassicaia, Solaia, Tignanello, and Redigaffi. This wine was outstanding. Probably one of the top 5 vintages of Insignia since 1994 in my opinion. Deep purple color, blueberry, blackberry, chocolate, some lead pencil and earth on the nose. Super smooth and elegant on the palate. Really well balanced fruit, tannins, acid. Long elegant finish of dark fruit and earthy with a touch of spice that lingered beautifully. We decanted this and all others about 2.5 hours prior to tasting. Second favorite of the night behind the Masseto which was a force of nature. — 5 years ago

unbelievable line up for the Tuscan '12's. The Redigaffi and the Ornellaia were outstanding. These two were my favorites. BUT, perhaps the revelation was how the Giusto di Notri stood up and took notice in this tasting. Keep your eyes open for that, as it's a fraction of the cost of the other 3. — 9 years ago
Tasted blind:
Med+ intensity, lots of black fruits, stewed cherries, cherry pie, underlying new oak, beginning to just show some tertiary character.
Palate was ripe, med+ tannin, med acidity. Similar flavors on the palate. A bit of black pepper and cinnamon. Good finish.
Initial conclusions were either a a high quality southern Rhone producer, possibly Languedoc (Mas Du Mas Gassac), perhaps a Minervois, an Italian super Tuscan (similar to 'Ornellaia), Napa (in a cooler vintage) and only was Bordeaux a final guess! — 9 years ago
A splurge treat. It didn’t surpass Ornellaia as my all time favourite, but definitely further established Bolgheri as my favourite wine region. A beautiful, elegant and balanced wine. Smooth and delicious. — 3 years ago
Part of Super Tuscan Horizontal tasting. All 2016 vintage Masseto, Ornellaia, Sassicaia, Solaia, Tignanello, Redigafi, and a mystery bottle (Phelps Insignia). I got a lot of plumb and black cherry on the nose with a little tobacco and chocolate. On the plate it was soft, rich and balanced. Finished with some spicy notes. Very enjoyable, but did not stand out relative to others in the tasting, but that’s only because of the competition. — 5 years ago
07' Ornellaia Bolgheri ( Bordeaux blend). Predominately Cabernet. I'm also guessing it's mostly all new oak. Slightly tannic & a little heavy on the oak. That absolutely subsides with a decent decanting . Must decant, so the fruit can move forward in the wine. Layers of elegant & beautiful black fruit, with hints of tobacco & dark chocolate. It just lays on the back of your palate for 30+ seconds. A little more patience/time?? I would love to try this again in 3-5 years. Recommend highly!
I've got to get some more of the great vintages of this! My better half..."We need to get some of this" 😉 — 9 years ago

Orma is sandwiched between Sassicaia and Ornellaia. This not their second wine that is a Merlot dominant Bordeaux blend. Medium bodied with nice complexity. Plums, orange peel, fine wood, clay, black tea, clove, coffee beans. — 2 years ago
