Odd but lovely. I completely agree with the sangria comment.

What an odd wine...smelled and tasted strongly of barnyard, although once you get past that it's quite enjoyable. Like riding a horse...stinky and leathery, but exhilarating. Very fruity and wild. — 8 years ago
Funky. Hey-ey with an odd nose but lasted forever — 8 years ago
Excellent depth and complexity. Odd dark ruby color. Stock photo — 8 years ago
Plenty of life left in this baby. May be at an odd point in its life but it's very complex and bright. Complex flavors and aromas ranging from wild berries to citrus peel, forest floor and spice. — 9 years ago
Has to be good because it says UVA on the label. Security blankets and warm socks by the fire. Like a lover running his fingers through your hair after a long day. — 9 years ago
Round 3 at SFG - massively dark big cab. Can taste the depth and very good blackberry and decent amount of oak. Knock your socks off. — 6 years ago

Bright ruby red. Bramble berries on the nose with a little bit of black fruit and an odd not that is almost like Chilean guava. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and medium bodied. Dark berries and woody notes. Slightly plush mid palate. Long bodied and slightly thins out. Solid drinkable cabernet. Drink till 2019. — 9 years ago
I love Seavey wines and think their Merlot is one of the best in Napa. Deep red with a slightly brown/orange rim. The nose is beautiful and I'm hit right away with cherry compote and brioche (which to me is odd for a red). The entry is silky smooth and fruit-driven with flavors of blueberries and cherries. Soft tannins and medium acidity balance out the wine for a long finish. — 9 years ago

Rotting fruit. Sweet and savory. Enjoyable but really odd. Will try again. — 6 years ago
This was my bottle, and it was opened alongside a ‘15 for comparison sake. Aromatics were similar to the ‘15 (red and black fruit) but less candied. More dirty, but not off putting. However, the finish on this was very unique...it turned very umami/earthy/herbal. Maybe an odd phase as it wakes up? Structure was still very solid (as expected for mountain fruit) so this may hold a while...
Almost two hours later: Better with air. Became more dark chocolate covered. Wow. The savory notes have faded and it’s showing a more rich and dark cocoa type finish. Very enjoyable. — 6 years ago
I can’t imagine it being any better, other than letting it age for another few years. High alcohol will help it carry through. The very best of Staggs Leap in Cabernet Sauvignon. This was a very special Cab. With an explosion of balanced fruit and minerality. It changed in the glass after 20 odd minutes. Super smooth and still drinking young. Those who wait a bit longer will be rewarded. — 8 years ago
Odd plastic aroma quickly blew off. ~30 mins of decanting and this was showing incredibly. Honey-like aroma and taste, a touch of salinity, just beautiful. The drinking window was pretty short as it started to lose its edge after about an hour and a half. — 9 years ago

Slightly odd on the nose. Bananas? Slightly scorched. There’s lovely intense fruit. Super fresh and rounded- but a slightly strange nose. When revealed... wow. I can’t believe young the fruit still is. Nearly a great wine but odd bits going on take the edge off. — 6 years ago
