On our sofa for Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor Juanjo Mena is leading BRITTEN (Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes), MOZART (Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat) with the talented Garrick Ohlsson on piano and then concluding with BRAHMS (Symphony No. 3).
We're experiencing intense thunderstorms coming through the area tonight and generally the BSO staff prevents people from gathering on the Lawn ever since a patron was struck by lightning in 2008... So for safety, we're at home enjoying beer tonight! Thank goodness for radio simulcasts!
Color is a translucent pink-orange, mostly still (almost no carbonation natural or otherwise). Sour/Fruity aspects on the nose. Palate is a sour...leading with fruit possibly derived from cherry or blackberry, or at least those are the notes I pick up. Very refreshing, I love sours, domestic or imported! — 7 years ago

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor Moritz Gnann is leading WAGNER (Siegfried Idyll), MOZART (Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat) with the outstanding Paul Lewis on piano and SCHUMANN (Symphony No. 3, Rhenish).
Peach juice, Lemon zest, wow Lemon oil like I've never tasted before, white flowers crushed in a limestone mortar with a granite pestle, aromas of late Spring rain on new flowers growing in the midst of a granite scree slope whilst someone had been running around squeezing Lemons beforehand, crazy. Looking forward to seeing how this develops in the coming days, too interesting to finish tonight.
24hr Update: Very tropical fruit-ish on the nose, still with lemon, lemon, lemon. The lemon oil notes have backed down on the palate. My wife thinks it's limes, it's definitely lemons, she's crazy.
48hr Update: Acidity and lemon oil characteristics are beginning to subside, probably 30% less than day one, just a stellar bottle! — 7 years ago

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon for David Zinman conducting the BSO through Mozart and two Schumann pieces. On cello today is the amazing Yo-Yo Ma, his first weekend appearance this summer and the Lawn is packed!
Bright cherry and red raspberry, medium acidity, long finish, possibly our favorite OR rosé of the season. — 8 years ago
Rich like a billionaire. Nose is greeted with lovely ripe rich dark fruits, and homey spices like cinnamon and clove. Complex like Mozart. Rich tannins. And a delightful aftertaste of red fruits. Can I have another bottle please? — 10 years ago
Kitchak made some incredible wines - sorry that he sold the winery. This is a complex, dark fruit Merlot. Tannins have really softened, but still there to give it structure. If you like great Merlot, this is one of them. Another wine that shows the 2011 Napa wines have aged much better than critics initially rated them. — 6 years ago

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our guest conductor Herbert Blomstedt is leading an all MOZART program tonight (Piano Concerto No. 17 in G) with the incredibly talented Emanuel (Manny!) Ax on piano and then concluding with MOZART (Symphony No. 41, Jupiter).
Nose is a little tight on this right now, but it is incredibly stoney, like a walk through a stone masons lot and a neighbor two properties down recently mowed the lawn.
The palate is opening, good minerality, light acidity, tropical fruit, yet showing restraint like no other CA Sauvignon Blanc I've ever experienced. Interesting stuff, likely will finish this bottle tomorrow (with updated notes) so that we can see what extended air time reveals... — 7 years ago

The time has come to think of Blaufränkisch (a.k.a. Lemberger) as the poor man's Beaujolais.
This took a while to open up... but with a little patience, man, one reaps rewards. Dark brambly fruit, light-bodied, but still a brooding wine, with supple, fine tannins. Had this chilled. Rainer Schnaitmann runs his cozy winery in a suburb near Stuttgart, where he serenades his barrels to Mozart, in the glow of candlelight. Lovely wine. — 8 years ago
It could have been Mozart, or perhaps the Hawaiian sunset, however this effen killed tonight. Violets, dark chocolate, luscious blueberry, creme de casis, and everything melds harmoniously when it gets some air. Over the span of 95 minutes the wine evolved and enraptured, stunning really. Saved it for last bottle of trip and it delivered. Enjoy. — 9 years ago
This is a subtle thrill. Gorgeous aromatics and a palate to match, it has neither the power of the Beze nor the backbone of the liger belair, but it will probably outlive both. Such is the magic of wine. I desperately hope to have another bottle in a couple of decades, but it was great to enjoy a bottle in its youth. Like listening to an early Mozart symphony, it's not where it will be, but it's thrilling nonetheless! — 11 years ago
Liaison and it’s drooling but soon it will be Mozart. Gorgeous. Spicey cranberry, earthy and forest scents. Hints of citrus and citrus peel. Superb aromas. Limpid pretty color as well. Palate is superb. Silky and sexy with lovely sweet and sour fruit. Loads of cherries and so pure. What balance and purity. Such a beautiful wine. Wow. What a showing. — 7 years ago

Color is red-purple-brown, still translucent but dark. Mostly a still beer, no notable bubbles at all. Sour/cherry/oak aspects on the nose. Palate is mild-sour, which is good if you're new at these styles of beer, it's more welcoming. Palate is distinctly tart cherry, with a lingering of oak in the finish. Nice accomplishment by the brewmaster in blending of barrel-aged stocks, smooth and enjoyable! — 7 years ago

On the Lawn at Tanglewood tonight with the Boston Symphony Orchestra opening the summer season. Tonight we'll have our conductor Andris Nelsons leading two pieces by MOZART (Overture to The Magic Flute and Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor with Lang Lang as piano soloist, a dynamic but controversial artist) and we'll conclude with TCHAIKOVSKY (Symphony No. 5).
The champagne is a beautiful salmon/light orange color. Acidity is bright, Pinot fruits are singing, chalky minerals, citrus and light trend towards red berries. A wonderful wine for the evening. Our heat wave of nearly a week dropped out today, breezy and mid 70°'s right now. — 7 years ago
This has to be one of the most exciting and inventive producers in Oregon! Went through a flight in the tasing room and the things theyre doing with stem use, oak experiments, pump over technique and terroir exploration is like mozart meets dr frankenstein. The wines are flawless and unforgettable. This one is pretty on the nose. Floral and woodsy like potpurri with dried citrus, red currant and soft raspberry. Whole cluster gives it weight and depth while the perfectly balanced acid keeps it lively delicate and light on its feet. Not to be missed. — 9 years ago

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. For Opening Night our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading MOZART (Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat) with one of our local treasures, Emanuel (Manny!) Ax on piano and then MAHLER (Symphony No. 5), a complex master work for which the BSO happens to be quite well practiced.
Prior notes still apply.
