Dark garnet color. Aromas of earth, tobacco, dried dark cherries/raspberries, menthol, dried rose petals and violets. The palate is more dark fruit driven (black cherry/raspberry/plum) with hints of forest floor and minerals. Touch of Brett and oak on the long and tingly finish. Nicely structured with fine grained tannins. Crisp acidity and medium bodied. The tertiary notes take the lead. Gets better as it opens up. — 5 months ago
Soft notes, typical Provence rose, perfect for summertime — 5 months ago
Bright lemon color with aromas of citrus, stone fruits and flinty floral notes. On the palate flavors of crisp apple, pear and lemon citrus with notes of white flowers and garden spice. Medium+ finish, vivid acidity ending with citrus and mineral spice. Nice! — 7 months ago
2023 summer. Showing some maturity with brown spice and mushroom on the nose; still some velvety fruit on the palate — 8 months ago

2023/12. Starts funky but blows off after a few hours. Crisp bright red fruit — 5 months ago
This 90% Merlot is grown directly adjacent to the Margaux property of the chateau but is entitled only to Bordeaux Superieur appellation. It’s really good and eminently drinkable. Loads of ripe, deep plummet fruit competes with cedar and rich, minerally earthy notes. In the mouth, it’s rich but not as ponderous as many ‘18s. For a weeknight-priced Bordeaux, wow! — 5 months ago
See previous note from almost 3 yrs ago - still going strong - improving even - fruit took on a baked quality, but so so fragrant, so in the pocket - really struts for a Cru Bourgeois! — 7 months ago
Inspired by Marcel Lapierre, the wines of Yvon Métras are arguably amongst the most controversial in all of Beaujolais. It could be that some just don’t “get it”. It could also just come down to an individual’s tolerance for his wine making methods (unabashedly natural). Regardless, no one can call his wines boring. This was our first of two Métras wines in the line-up this evening. Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2015 “Moulin-à-Vent” is comparatively dark and rustic to the wines that came before it. It’s a little funky and mousy but not out of control; certainly well within everyone’s tolerance on this occasion. Tannins are a little gritty and acid is well into the medium+ category. I felt like this bottle could probably stand to sit longer. You can drink now but best after 2025 and should drink well through 2035. — 9 months ago
Brought to Au Courant from our cellar to celebrate our daughter’s 15th birthday. As far as I can tell, 2009 was the first commercially available vintage of Thibault’s foray into Moulin-a-Vent so this was fun to try since I’ve been a big fan of his work there.
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service. The 2009 VV pours a deep ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity and some light staining of the tears. There were some signs of sediment but most had been decanted off. On the nose, the wine is…well…pretty wild with notes of horse blanket and there’s just a touch of varnish in there too. For me, it’s teetering on the edge of, “is this charming or is this overbearing”? However, since there was more there than just a cow pasture and I don’t get any gerbil cage, I’ll leave this in the “charming” camp but I digress…back to the notes from the nose. The wine is developing, with dark crunchy berries, dark cherries, sandalwood...some pepper, some leather and light notes of potting soil. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. The first glass showed a touch of effervescence like there could have been a slight refermentation in the bottle. Confirming the notes from the nose though it seems cleaner on the palate with some granite minerals on the finish. Interesting, it’s almost like this was semi-carbonic but as far as I know, Thibault has been making these wines using the same methods as he does his GC wines in Nuits-Saint-Georges so I don’t know. And this is why I like this wine. It’s making me think...and it’s been enjoyable throughout the meal, working particularly well with our strip steak. Yum! A really fun wine for those that enjoy something a little more rustic. That being said, I know it wouldn’t have pleased everyone. There is plenty of gas left in the tank and while this drinks very well now, I would expect that this will continue to drink well through 2029 with ease. — 4 months ago
Very fresh for 15 years. Enough tertiary funk to play well on the table. A fun cellar release from KLWM — 7 months ago
Mooie Saint-Emelion, geur had zich wat beter mogen ontwikkelen. Smaak is prima, nu (2023) al goed drinkbaar. — 10 months ago

Bright at the outset with apple, cherries, peaches then transitions to touch of smoke and wood while the acidity carries forward through the finish. — 3 months ago
