Just a little something something to prep my palate before the Festivities began! Solid Chardonnay but I expected more.
On the fun side!: Blind tasting three wines tonight with friends: 2013 Beau Vigne Estate, 2014 Becklyn Reserve & 2013 Morlet Coeur de Vallee. Can't wait to dig in to those 3 bad boys!!! — 8 years ago
This is NOT my mother's Chenin Blanc! It is got some funk but with wonderful citrus notes, m#reminds me of a Morlet la proportion Doree but not as highly extracted! Paired well with Lon's Louie salad! — 9 years ago
Another fantastic example by nic morlet. Maybe tasting at the winery makes a difference? — 12 years ago
@Mike R @Carl Fischer @Ron R @Joe Lucca @David L Believe me when I say that it was an absolute toss up between the Beau Vigne Estate and the Morlet "Coeur de Vallee". The Beau Vigne Estate came in 2nd with the Width of a hair. It was Magnificent. Marilyn Monroe wasn't as full bodied as this beauty!! Enjoyed from a 1.5L and it was blew us away. A nose that enticed you to relish in it's opulence. Deep dark blue and black fruit. You could truly tell that drinking this one sip at a time was going to be a Hedonistic experience. It was beyond perfect in the Front, Mid and Back Palate. We found ourselves taking minutes between sips due to it's Marathon Length finish. Why 2nd place you may ask By the slightest of margins?? I think this may be a 100 point wine in a few years. without a doubt it is THAT GOOD!!
The Morlet wasn't as big and boisterous BUT it have the edge in regards to Balance and being well rounded at this time. The blind tasting reveals which wine is best now & not which will be best in the future. It was AWESOME to discuss these as the night went on!! — 8 years ago
09' Bure Family Thirteen. We decanted it for 90 minutes. Very dark red in color. It looks brand-new. Palate is a monster even after a two hour decanting. Primarily all black fruits with a hint of blue fruits. RIPE- plum, chocolate, & tannins /acidity that are bold in this 100% Cab. 10'+ years in this bottle. Luc Morlet winemaker . I'm gonna wait another 18 months before we open another. — 9 years ago
This is probably the best SB I have had this year and I have enjoyed a lot... Aged very well and has still a long future! Luc Morlet is the winemaker. — 9 years ago
Lots of dark currant cassis berry fruit with dark chocolate and toasty oak spice very complex and rich on the tongue thick berry fruit the Dillon family is behind this label nick Allen is the principle and Luc Morlet is the winemaker very juicy with a long layered finish. Finish 50+ — 11 years ago
Owned by the same owners as Haut Brion and made by Luc Morlet. Brilliant juice if you can find it. — 12 years ago
@Mike R @David L @Ron R @Carl Fischer @Joe Lucca Had some fun last night!! Friends came over and we enjoyed a beautiful evening outside and did a blind tasting of these 3 beauties: 2014 Becklyn Reserve, 2013 Morlet & 2013 Beau Vigne Estate. The Becklyn Reserve came in 3rd. All 3 ended up being decanted for 5+ hours before we dig into them. The Becklyn was great but it was overshadowed by the others. Insane Quality price ratio. Paid $105 for the bottle. The nose had dark fruit and blue fruit which I love. It's youth was showing on the mid & back palate and the finish was short in comparison to its rivals.
Don't get me wrong, badass bottle of wine and I'm happy I bought 24 of them!! On this particular evening it was simply upstaged. I would absolutely recommend this to everyone. Can't wait to see how it develops over time! — 8 years ago
@David A Lentine @Christine @Gina Sabean @Robert Takahashi If the nose could have won Wine of The Night then Kenzo would have won. It was soft and seductive, enticing you to relish in its beauty. For as much as we re-visited the Morlet which truly set the benchmark we found ourselves revisiting the Kenzo to compare the nose. Truly beautiful for such a young wine. Unfortunately, youth has its benefits and drawbacks. It was just a 1/10th of a step behind the Morlet due to its youth. Not quite as broad or with as long of a finish. However, we stopped splitting hairs & are now splitting Atoms at this point if you catch my drift. What an absolute Beaty this was this evening!! Simply stunning!
BUT Alas., it was a tasting and a vote must be rendered. 2nd it was but by the smallest of margins. Give this baby a few years to grow into its own and get ready to see a star shine! Bravo!!! And thank you so very much for my birthday gift this year Bob!! IOU one! — 9 years ago
