Molino del Ciego Sémillon 2019

I love wines from Chile because I never have a clue what to expect - oddball notes and new combinations of smells and tastes.

Molina del Ciego is Chilean Semillon and smells like soft Peachie O’s and sour tangerine Tang powder. Swerve to minty menthol and white pepper. Big orange tannins and celery bitters for a nice farewell.

Casa al Vento

Foho Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2012

This is my last bottle of this superb CCR. All sorts of secondary and tertiary scents found on. Gravel, sandstone, roasted herbs, almost a eucalyptus thing, iodine, macerated dark cherry, exotic spice market. Perfectly balanced in the mouth, with great acids and flavors that still seem youthful despite being 8 years old. Great stuff. — 5 years ago

Sibilla Langhe Arneis 2017

Crisp like a cider. Color, too.

Freshly picked apples. The lush smell of herbs as in green chartreuse.

Puckered punch. Sharp like the bite of cheddar.

Fun to swirl in laps around the glass. Fun to keep smelling its fragrance. Fun to look at in soft light.

Most of all, fun to drink.

Il Molino di Grace

Gratius Toscana Sangiovese 2011

Mature aromas of dried cherries and ripe tomato (& tomato leaf). Yet the tannins still show grip, the purity of fruit is prominent and the acidity still juicy. This one has a few years to go. A very, very good wine.
Single vineyard, old vines, 90% Sangiovese with Cannaiolo & Mammolo.

Daterra Viticultores Portela Do Vento Mencía

At first, quite a bit of reductive and bretty notes which blew off within a half hour. Night 1: Berries and barnyard, acid and spice.

Night 2: Thick, thick violet perfume upon opening. Tart cherry, mulberry, cardamom. Wow! A day of air does the trick. Nose is so sexy and voluptuous. Just something I want to pour all over myself. On the palate it has the hallmark texture and umami of the rosado. A bit of VA and subtle tannins are pleasant if not fully integrated.

Sounds great. I don’t mind a bit of VA on a wild red with that much style. I’ve been interested in her wines for awhile now.

@Chris Shultz agreed! Reds are very good but her rosados are insane... if you find any jump on em!

So much better than expected. The acid had fallen off a bit but the texture was reminiscent of older Sancerre and overall quite pleasant. Drinking the cellar dry so we had to try it! — 7 years ago

Molino Real

Mountain Wine Málaga Moscatel 2012

Incredible. White flowers, rose petal, orange blossom, peach, pear, orange creamsicle, vanilla. Strong old vine intensity and ultra long thought-provoking finish. Just a baby still, with prevalent oak and potential for extended aging period, but still really well balanced. — 7 years ago

A steal at $38. Filthy, so good. Traditional style barolo. Decanted for about 45 minutes and it is singing. Drank with pasta with red sauce and meatballs. — 4 years ago

Kaliholmanok Kicu Ma Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Well, after 3 months of keto and having lost a grand total of 54 pounds I’m finally back to drinking wine 🔥 My wife suggested we celebrate by drinking Aaron Pott’s single vineyard Cabernet from the Kicu Ma vineyard in Spring Mountain. Fantastic pick, Babe (@Krystal Vento)

Upon visual analysis the color is deep and rich in its youthfulness. On the nose a lovely perfume of dried potpourri, lavender, plum, clove, graphite, and sweet vanilla. The palate...the palate absolutely blew me away. Incredibly suave and velvety with arguably one of the most plush yet lively mouthfeels I’ve experienced in years. Stewed blueberries, blackberries, and plums with muddled spices. I also detect the inorganic trappings of graphite, along with moist wood shavings. This is truly a sensuous and extravagant wine that is Spring Mountain on full display in all its glory.
